General Summary- The Transport Driver's primary responsibility is to provide outpatients in our service area with transportation services to and from their personal residences or other health care facilities to Phelps Health or a Phelps Health affiliate for treatment or diagnostic procedures.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Greets and communicates to patients who are being transported in a polite, kind and courteous manner.
- Assists patients who are being transported, in and out of vans and into Phelps Health or other healthcare facilities as appropriate.
- Maintains open communication with patients, Phelps Health and other healthcare facilities as it relates to patient transporting, times and schedules of pick-up and delivery.
- Communicates in an effective manner with patients, hospital departments and outside healthcare facilities as to the impact of transportation services on each service or organization.
- Schedules all maintenance and cleaning of transport vehicles.
- Maintains all transportation logs, and maintenance records on vehicles as directed.
- Keeps interior of transport vehicles neat, clean and free from clutter. Does not permit smoking in any transportation vans.
- Provides passenger transportation in a safe and timely manner.
Education- High School graduate or equivalent preferred, a basic amount of education is necessary. Ability to read, write and follow directions.
Work Experience- One year experience in a service related field preferably in healthcare, public or healthcare transportation experience preferred. Customer service skills a must.
Certification/License- American Heart Association basic life support certified and current Missouri driver's class E license required. Annual driver's exam required.
Mental/Physical Requirements- Mental ability required to follow written and verbal instructions. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds without lifting aids. Ability to learn and understand policies and procedures related to transportation position. Annual physical and eye exam.
Working Conditions- May experience long periods of standing, walking or sitting in vehicle. Will come in contact with out-patients. May encounter unpleasant conditions at times during the transportation process.
