Job Description:
The Late Night Youth Care Worker is responsible for providing direct supervision, support and direction to children and adolescents in a compassionate and respectful manner during overnight hours. This includes requiring an unwavering commitment to the safety of all Unaccompanied Children (UC) and being aware of all ongoing developments and concerns, on a daily basis, of all UC in their care. The Late Night Youth Care Worker is responsible for building professional and trusting relationships with the UC in order to maintain a positive and healthy milieu on the shelter unit. The Late Night Youth Care Worker is also responsible to meet all regulatory and policy requirements for documentation, the safety of the physical environment, and any other requirement asked by Program Leadership. JOB DUTIES:
  • Transport UCs to off-campus activities and appointments, including airport for discharges and/or arrivals and/or scheduled consults utilizing program vehicles when necessary and as required.
  • Provide direct, eyes-on supervision of the UC in their care throughout their shift. Remain awake, alert, and engaged throughout their entire shift. Role model appropriate and professional behavior in all interactions with the UC and other staff. Demonstrate competency in the areas of relationship building, professional boundaries and role modeling with UC as taught by KidsPeace.
  • Ensure a safe and secure environment on the unit and in any other area where staff are with the UC. Act immediately to remove all dangers or threats to the welfare of the UC and know the whereabouts of all UC at all times. Complete 15-minute checks and all other safety checks as expected. Complete monitoring of UC as stated in policy and document according to policy and regulations.
  • Supervise with any routines and responsibilities of the UC and ensure performance of daily self-care tasks, assisting when necessary. Provide minor first aid treatment when necessary.
  • Supervise the UC's on-campus movement with a strong commitment to safety. Complete intake processes for new UC's arriving on campus. Complete preparations for UC who will be discharged during shift or directly after.
  • Implement any behavior plan, risk protocol or other safety measure in accordance with Kidshaven protocols and the direction of the clinical team. Provide support and de-escalation to the UC as needed.
  • Complete all required documentation of services as defined by all regulatory bodies and KidsPeace policies. Communicate quickly and thoroughly all client specific relevant information obtained through daily supervision of UC to appropriate clinical team members. Meet all policies and requirements for communication deadlines.
  • Demonstrate care, compassion, respect, integrity, truthfulness and ethical behavior with the UC as well as interactions with other staff members within the program and organization as a whole.
  • Complete all tasks asked of the Late Night Department, which may include cleaning and disinfecting of all housing units and other campus building, laundering of UC clothing, removal of garbage as needed, and any other tasks asked by LN or by Program Leadership.
  • Understand and comply with all laws, policies, regulations and ethical practices. Understand the duty to report a belief of a violation of laws, regulations, standards and ethical practices.
  • Provide direct translation in collaboration with the Clinician, MD or RN to clients and/or their families for counseling sessions, groups, assessment information and other areas determined by need.
  • Complete 40 hours of training in accordance with all corporate and regulatory requirements within the deadlines established by the program or by contract.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High School graduate or equivalent required. College education in Mental Health or related field preferred.
  • One year of paid experience in working with children or adolescents required.
  • The candidate must possess, exhibit and maintain competency in dealing with children.
  • CPR/FA certification required.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Must possess basic personal computer knowledge and skills.
  • Fluency in English and Spanish (demonstrated competency in oral and written communication) required.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must have the ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, flexible hours, and overtime as required.
