P3 Electrical EngineerLocation:Marcy, USSummaryProvide electrical engineering expertise and direction for equipment and control systems, utilized in the Utility generation and transmission of electric power (high-medium-low voltage power, metering, control, security and fire alarm) ; and/or Customer utilization electrical systems (medium-low voltage power, control and fire alarm).Develop solutions for electrical power and control systems in generation, transmission, substation, planning, metering or Customer utilization sites as assigned. Ensures that standards of quality, economics, safety, reliability, maintainability, timeliness and performance are met throughout all engineering activities.ResponsibilitiesProvide lead engineer function in support of a limited range of design modification projects, equipment applications and failure research, engineering studies, and operations and maintenance activities & practicesPerform field visits to complete field inspections, condition assessments, and equipment evaluations and develop basic technical recommendationsPerform occasional emergency response, including outside of normal business hours.Independently coordinate cross disciplinary activities for the successful development and execution of projects and/or O&M activities.Select and apply codes, standards, and procedures to work tasks appropriately.Perform inspections and evaluations to ensure engineering requirements and Authority specifications are satisfied.Provide direction and review in the development of the project engineering documents and submittals.Site ElectricalHold work clearances, and coordinate work activitiesMetering GroupReview and validate operational and revenue meter system and ensure proper operation and profiling of generation, transmission, and customer load data.Interface within NYPA and external agencies to support settlement and reporting activities.Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesCompetency in the design, operation and maintenance of electrical systems specific to the electric utility, or commercial/industrial industry, along with their various systems and componentsWorking knowledge of applicable codes, standards, and regulations.Strong verbal and written communication skills.Collaborative and team-oriented with ability to build relationships with vendors and stakeholders.Ability to perform engineering calculations, and complete specifications, scopes of work, reports, and interdisciplinary design packages.Ability to coordinate the technical and commercial aspects of projects.Competent in the use of Microsoft Office applications.Working experience with an Electrical design or forecasting software such as SKM Power Tools preferred.Ability to effectively manage and prioritize multiple projectsEducation, Experience and CertificationsBachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent, from an accredited college or university.Minimum of five (5) years of related work experience preferred.New York State Engineer in Training certification preferred.Physical RequirementsApproximately 25% travel, primarily within NY StateWillingness to enter confined spaces and climb/scale power system apparatuses is required.Hiring Manager: Randal AceyDepartment: TransmissionGrade Level: 07XThe New York Power Authority is committed to providing fair, competitive, and market-informed compensation.
