Job Title PACE Pathway Navigator
Job Description
Pathway Navigators are responsible for providing direct service to participants in all PACE (Pathways for Academic Career and Employment Act, 2014 Iowa Code Chapter 260H) related programs and services at Southeastern Community College. Navigators provide guidance and support to individuals who are interested in pursuing training, education, credentialing, employment and or advancement in earning their high school equivalency diploma, non-credit, and/or credit programs such as (but not limited to) healthcare, advanced manufacturing, and IT. This position is part of a team of PACE Navigators that will collaborate with internal and external partners to research, develop and promote well-articulated career pathways and related resources and services for low-wage and low-skilled individuals in the SCC service region. The Pathway Navigator will focus specifically on the identification, recruitment, and case-management support of individuals eligible for PACE program support services and will assist the Director of Student Support, Retention, and PACE Programs and the Assistant Director of PACE in development, facilitation, reporting, and evaluation of PACE program activities.
This is a full-time (261 work days per year) position with an annual starting salary of $43,888 per year.
Benefits include single medical ($1000 deductible), dental & vision insurance, $50,000 life insurance, long-term disability, paid sick leave, 15 days vacation, paid holidays, paid spring break and holiday break and participation in IPERS or TIAA - CREF retirement plan.
The PACE Pathway Navigator will be assigned to the West Burlington campus but must have the ability and mobility to regularly visit other areas throughout the college district and state. Must be able to work on a basis of available as work demands in addition to a fixed schedule, which may include evenings and weekends.
The PACE Pathway Navigator will abide by the employment contract and relevant policies and guidelines of the Board of Trustees.
Employment is contingent upon the continuation of grant funding.
Essential Duties Summary
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
+ Learn and embrace Southeastern Community College's mission, vision, values and goals, the comprehensive community college philosophy, and related Iowa Code.
+ Learn, apply and role-model all SCC policies and procedures; and support and abide by strategic goals and expectations of accountability established by the institution and the Student Affairs division, respectively.
+ Assist in the facilitation of PACE program initiatives with the goal of providing low-skilled and low-wage individuals the guidance, opportunity, and support for accessing improved training, education and credentialing relevant to local workforce demands.
+ Provide direct service to program participants as follows:
+ Identify, recruit, support and establish positive and trusting relationships with eligible PACE participants.
+ Foster the development of self-accountability, self-advocacy, self-awareness, and self-confidence.
+ Use a case-management approach to guide participants through completion of: self-assessments to identify skills, interests and needs; available social service resources; career exploration and life planning; goal setting; admissions and financial aid processes; employment or internship searches or placement; identification and resolution of challenges or barriers within or outside their experience at SCC .
+ Document and track student attendance, behavior, and progress.
+ Identify, recruit, support and establish positive and trusting relationships with eligible PACE participants.
+ Foster the development of self-accountability, self-advocacy, self-awareness, and self-confidence.
+ Use a case-management approach to guide participants through completion of: self-assessments to identify skills, interests and needs; available social service resources; career exploration and life planning; goal setting; admissions and financial aid processes; employment or internship searches or placement; identification and resolution of challenges or barriers within or outside their experience at SCC .
+ Document and track student attendance, behavior, and progress.
+ Establish and maintain effective working relationships with multiple internal and external entities including but not limited to academic affairs; CBIZ ; continuing education; WIOA ; AEL ; HS relations; admissions; the Student Support Center and other college departments and committees; as well as representatives from targeted business and industry sectors; government, economic development and education organizations; local human services, workforce and community-based organizations; and other stakeholders to achieve the following expectations:
+ Assist Director and Assistant Director in development and implementation of career pathways for the healthcare and manufacturing industry sector and other potential sectors.
+ Communicate with relevant stakeholders to maintain referral system networks that support a collective impact framework for PACE program participants.
+ Assist Director, Assistant Director, and faculty in the development of appropriate curriculum for entry level training and instruction of work-readiness skills that are aligned with industry recognized standards of local employers.
+ Assist in the development of college processes and policies that support students in transition among external, internal, training, employment, non-credit and credit educational services and processes.
+ Utilize marketing, recruitment, eligibility, intake, assessment, case management, and evaluation methods, tools, and other documents in carrying out PACE initiatives to provide customized service delivery plans for program participants.
+ Complete all reporting requirements associated with the PACE program within established timelines.
+ Actively participate in department, division, and institution meetings and trainings.
+ Other duties as assigned by the Director and Assistant Director.
+ Excellent verbal and written skills and ability to get along with a variety of personality styles and quickly establish rapport are a must. In addition, the individual in this position will actively promote a positive image for the college district.
Required Qualifications
+ Bachelor's degree required. Area of emphasis: Student Services, Communication, Counseling or Human Relations preferred.
+ Self-motivated, energetic and creative individual with a minimum of two (2) years program administrative experience required. Administrative experience includes: planning, budgeting, organizing, monitoring, evaluating and reporting of program or business functions.
+ Experience in preparing and presenting to groups of individuals, preferred.
+ Ability to use technology and computer software applications to perform work duties:
+ Able to use Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
+ Ability to learn and develop competency in SCC's administrative software (Ellucian) and other software.
+ Understanding and commitment to the comprehensive community college philosophy.
+ Strong presentation, facilitation, written verbal, listening and interpersonal communication skills.
+ Ability to provide quality customer service both internally and externally.
+ Strong human relations and interpersonal skills to interact positively and cooperatively with diverse backgrounds and other internal/external constituents of SCC .
+ Ability to read, comprehend and abide by government forms/regulations and complete required reports related to grant activities.
+ Ability to handle confidential matters with discretion and perform with a high level of personal and professional integrity and ethics.
+ Must be detail-oriented with strong analytical, evaluative and organizational skills, with demonstrated ability to plan, implement and manage multiple tasks.
+ Must possess valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
+ Experience working with low-income, low-skilled, and low-educated individuals and persons from diverse backgrounds. Special consideration given to candidates with background similar to the program's target audience.
+ Successful experience assisting college students with personal, social, economic and or academic challenges.
+ Minimum two (2) year's experience in college student affairs/services, career/life advising, human/social services setting.
+ Demonstrated ability and desire to work in a team-centered environment and to interact positively and cooperatively with others.
Physical Demands
