Summary
The Packaging Manager ensures efficient and effective operations within the packaging department, includes aiding in the development of new packaging procedures as business needs evolve. Responsibilities include the day-to-day management of packaging operations, implementation of new and updated packaging SOPs, and supervision of all processes, personnel and equipment required to package cannabis flower and ancillary products. This position must also coordinate with all departments to ensure a smooth workflow, seamless fulfillment/delivery, and mitigating backlogs and/or shortages. The Packaging Manager will train and manage packaging personnel to meet a consistent, high standard of work.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Leads a diverse packaging team effectively and positively with varying levels of experience.
- Maintains and improves operating procedures related to packaging cannabis flower and ancillary products.
- Compiles compliance procedures and data tracking according to the needs of the business.
- Adheres to state regulated compliance regulations and compliance software.
- Manages packaging employees and their schedule.
- Oversees thorough compliance checks on finished goods and packages prior to transferring to logistics/delivery.
- Supervises packaging operations to ensure consistency and efficiency.
- Implements and maintains detailed Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all packaging tasks and processes.
- Organizes SOPs into written displays, and references in the form of duties lists, standards, and manuals to set a clear expectation for the employees.
- Trains new and existing packaging employees on new SOPs and duties, as well as organize training programs and manuals for new hires.
- Coordinates with Extraction, Kitchen, Quality Control and Sales management to determine production schedule and maintain an efficient flow of product.
- Ensures proper machine cleaning and preventative maintenance.
- Maintains a high standard of cleanliness and professionalism.
- Works the hours required to meet production goals, with a “first to arrive, last to leave” mentality when it comes to presence in the department.

Minimum Qualifications
- Must be able to obtain a state medical marijuana badge and pass a background check
- Must be able to communicate with subordinates, peers, and leadership effectively and professionally.
- Must perform under high pressure situations.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, always evolving, and challenging environment
- Excellent attention to detail - we operate in a heavily regulated industry with strict regulations that must be met with every package, without fail
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Ability to organize and write clear procedures

- Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. The ability to respond quickly to sounds. The ability to move safely over uneven terrain or in confined spaces. The ability to see and respond to dangerous situations. The ability to wear personal protective gear correctly most of the day. The ability to sit or stand for up to 12 hours at a time. The ability to work in bright/hot/humid conditions. The ability to work in low light situations. Lifting, standing, sitting, walking, bending, reaching, push/pull, repetitive use of hands, grasping use of hands, visual activity. Exposure to limited hazardous chemicals.
Education & Experience Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
- 2 to 4 years' management or leadership experience
- 2 to 4 years' production or manufacturing-related experience
- Experience with production or manufacturing management is strongly preferred
- Proficient computer knowledge (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.) and comfortable learning new software
