Overview

Performs those duties required to disassemble, clean, set up, and adjust the packaging machinery and equipment and maintain the mechanical operation of the line in a productive manner.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Run the following lines: , 2, 6, 9, if trained.

* Perform complete line set-ups of machinery and/or equipment, fine tune the line with minimal adjustments required by lead mechanics within the following time frames:

* Line , 2, - not to exceed 11 hours

* Line 6 - not to exceed 12 hours

* Line 9 - not to exceed 16 hours

* Ability to set up, train, run and troubleshoot the use of serialization equipment and software.

* Perform all required documentation as specified in the SOP's: i.e. equipment set-up sheet, packaging data sheet, mechanic's daily sheet and equipment log books.

* Initiate minor/major repairs and adjustments on machinery and/or equipment.

* Exceed the established production standard for the assigned line the majority of the time.

* Recommend machine and/or equipment modifications and/or improvements which may be required or needed.

* Work with Maintenance personnel to make necessary changes or improvements when assigned.

* Troubleshoot and perform diagnostic inspections when necessary.

* Supply packaging machines with proper materials required for continuous operation and observes the process for quality and quantity of production when assigned.

* Dismantle, clean, cover, and put away parts and/or equipment as necessary.

* Determine needs for replacement parts and prepares necessary order forms for the Lead Mechanic and/or Shift Supervisor

* Assist with training Pkg Mech 2 & 3 as requested.

* Review equipment manuals periodically and participate in continuous improvement projects and other methods of improving productivity.

* Fill in for Lead Packaging Mechanic when necessary.

* Operate lines assigned by supervisor with minimal guidance and assistance from the lead mechanic.

* Perform duties in accordance with applicable cGMPs, SOPs, and safety rules.

* Perform all duties mindful of personal and fellow associates' safety.

* Perform other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor.

* Display a positive team attitude and assist other associates when the opportunity arises.

QUALIFICATIONS - EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATIONS:

* High school diploma or equivalent.

* Associate Degree in Mechanical Technology or related major.preferred.

* Associate degree or equivalent experience.

* Formal mechanical training or applicable experience.

* Two to three years as a Packaging Mechanic 2 or equivalent experience.

* Demonstrated exceptional level of mechanical aptitude and trouble-shooting /diagnostic skills.

* Demonstrated highly developed operational knowledge of all plant packaging lines.

* Ability to read and comprehend specifications as outlined in cGMP's and SOP's as well as blueprints, equipment manuals, and schematic drawings.

* Ability to work in a team environment.

* Ability to work shift work and overtime.

* Ability to assume duties of Lead Packaging Mechanic.

* Pass visual acuity test.

* Experience in SAP

* Operate powered industrial trucks

* Experience in Lockout/Tagout

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

* Must be able to analyse and troubleshoot mechanical problems to make necessary adjustments and/or repairs.

* Must have the ability to recognise opportunities for packaging machine improvements and make recommendations.

* Responsible to see that machinery to run Packaging Line is kept in repair and properly maintained to avoid breakdowns and delays in the cycle time.

* This is a high-level position requiring an exceptional level of trouble-shooting/diagnostic skill along with highly developed operational knowledge of plant packaging lines.

* Assists Production Department in meeting goals developed in the Site Strategic Plans by meeting daily production schedules.
