Packer Operator SHIFT: 3rd 10pm-6:30am (Overtime as needed) PAY: $23.04 + $1.00 shift differential New Hire Bonus: $500 after completing 30 day probationary period, $1,000 after completing 6 months of employment and $1,000 after completing 12 months of employment. Total of $2,500. JOB SUMMARY: The Packer Operator is primarily responsible for operation of the packer. The main goal will be to pack all feed ordered for shipment. In doing so, he/she must be able to successfully run feed by coordinating the packing line and its supporting systems; he/she must also be able to correctly sequence all feed; regularly maintain/clean the packer and support systems; familiarize self with products and their required specifications; and anything else supervisor requires. The qualified candidate will have the ability to work 40+ hours per week. He/she must be able to pack a minimum of 4500 bags per 8-hour shift. He/she must be able to repeatedly lift 50 lbs.; and be mechanically inclined. The candidate must be able to multi-task; work as a team player; and work in a fast-paced environment with very high responsibilities. A sense of urgency is a must. This is a high visibility role within the plant and company. Metrics are tracked for line efficiency, uptime, and downtime. This position requires constant movement throughout the packing line. This is not a stationary position. The operator must be proficient in both packing lines Essential Functions:

  • Works safely and follows all safety procedures and safety requirements including but not limited to:
  • Lock out tag out (LOTO), Personal Protective Equipment, Fall Protection, Auger Safety, Confined Space and Housekeeping.
  • Selects correct packer program for the bag size and/or type and selects correct scale program.
  • Applies liquids per DataStor formula and notifies supervisor or maintenance immediately when liquid application is inconsistent or missing. Closes work orders in E1 and completes all applicable sections accurately. Completes work orders and paperwork. Places non-conforming product on hold. Performs quality check every 100 bags.
  • Executes changeover accurately.
  • Understands and follows packer operator parameters .
  • Operator must be able to perform minor troubleshooting. Monitors packing rate (bags per minute exiting the packer) and notifies supervisor when rates are below targets established in packer operator parameters.
  • Cleans the liquid blender, surge, scales, hopper, and spout when required. Cleans the Buhler screener when required. Cleans work area at the end of shift.
  • Reports equipment failures or potential failures to management in a timely manner. Monitors packer closely.
  • Completes additional housekeeping assignments.
  • Standing, walking, able to work in tight spaces, climbing stairs/ladders - required.
  • Proficient in wet line and dry line - required.
  • Able to read, write, comprehend, follow verbal and written instructions - required.
  • Able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. - required.
  • Visual acuity - required.
  • Able to work in hot/cold/dusty environments - required.
  • Beating/poking bins - required.
  • Forklift certified - required.
  • Not afraid of working heights greater than 5 feet - required.
  • Attention to detail - required Basic computer and math skills - required.
  • Sense of urgency - required.
  • Overtime/weekends - required per business needs. Short notice on occasions.
  • Able to withstand high levels of scrutiny. Completes miscellaneous assignments from management.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
  • Basic computer skill
EDUCATION REQUIREMENT: High School diploma or GED preferred. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Age: 18 years or older
  • Comprehension: Ability to read, write, comprehend, follow verbal and written instructions.

Physical Requirements for production positions regularly include:
  • Able to lift 50lbs
  • Frequent movement including walking, standing, bending/stooping, turning, twisting, pushing, pulling, raising arms, lifting, climbing and other active movements
  • Performing duties while wearing personal protective equipment
  • Working across temperature zones that may include cold and/or hot environments for extended periods and may include work in environments where dust is present
  • Shift schedules that include days, nights, and weekends, some holidays and periodic overtime
