Salary: See Position DescriptionLocation : ND, NDJob Type: VolunteerJob Number: 2023-09Department: Fire DepartmentOpening Date: 09/22/2023Closing Date: ContinuousJob DescriptionThe is seeking a Paid-on-Call Firefighter to join the Summary:The incumbent in this position is specifically trained to respond to emergency situations involving fire, hazardous materials, or special rescues, and to provide support for fire prevention efforts. The incumbent in this position is responsible to perform duties in an accurate manner in order to protect the life and property of the citizens of the City of Williston. Supervisor: Paid-on-Call Chief Staff Supervision Exercised: None Time Commitment:Time requirements are flexible, dependent on 911 call volume.Paid-on-Call Firefighters are required to attend one (1) meeting a month for two (2) hours, typically Wednesdays and two (2) month trainings for six (6) hours, typically every other Saturday.Additional time requirements determined by community events such as Fire Prevention Week, MDA Fill-the-Boot, Parades, Band Day, etc. Shift Rotation:Paid-on-Call Firefighters will be placed on a Quick-Attack Team. Each team is on call for two (2) weeks and off for four (4) weeks. Potential to be on call while off varies dependent on station backfill, mutual aid requests, First/Second Alarm calls. Compensation:$36.05/call paid bi-weekly Living Requirements:Incumbents are to live within City of Williston city limits, or upon approval within 5-10 minutes of city limits. Essential Job Functions:
- Emergency response for fire suppression, Hazmat, and other forms of special rescues.
- Provide fire suppression in all types of fire situations.
- Perform search and rescue operations at fires to locate and remove victims.
- Perform ventilation operations at fires to remove smoke and heat from structures.
- Participate in training classes and drills to maintain and enhance firefighting skills.
- Public education and fire safety education with children, adults, and schools.
- Clean and maintain station and equipment.
- Personal, company and department training.
- Regularly participates in either group or self-directed physical fitness activities.
- Perform truck and equipment checks daily on Fire apparatus.
- Perform recordkeeping.
- Perform other related duties as required or assigned.

- High school diploma or GED equivalent; and 12-18 months of total satisfactory work experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
- Must possess a valid Driver's License
- CPR & First Aid
- Firefighter I & II standards certificate (or have the ability to obtain within the first year)
- Hazardous Material Operations & Awareness certificate (or have the ability to obtain within the first year)
- NIMS ICS 100, 200 & 700 certifications (or have the ability to obtain within the first year)
Training opportunities available to obtain desired certifications for incumbents who have met the minimum certificate, license, and registration requirements.Language Skills:Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and standard operating guidelines. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before patients, crews and groups of customers or employees of an organization.Mathematical Skills:Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to utilize both internal and external resources to obtain information and data necessary to carry out routine assignments and special projects. Must have ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with management and staff. Must be able to work both independently and in a team environment, using a high level of professionalism and critical thinking. Physical Demands: Standing in work areas, walking between work areas, and driving to various locations will be required. There will be a regular expectation to pull, push, reach, walk, stand, sit, crawl, kneel, bend and have the use of hands and fingers, use of both eyes for sight, including ability to distinguish color and distance, hearing, extensive use of arms and legs to climb on top of, under, in and around equipment and facilities; work in proximity and use of computer screens; verbally communicating, and moving objects. The Paid-on-Call Firefighter must be able to physically move, lift, carry and manipulate up to 100 pounds. Work Environment:While performing the duties of this job, the Paid-on-Call Firefighter frequently works in and outside of various locations and weather conditions within the community. The noise level in the work environment is loud. Essential functions require maintaining condition necessary for sitting and standing for prolonged periods of time. The Paid-on-Call Firefighter will work at all Williston Fire Department facilities and is expected to keep work areas clean, safe, and functional. Any materials, files, documents, electronic tools, or other items collected or created by an employee in connection with their employment remain the property of the City. Additionally, all material created, transmitted/sent, received, deleted, downloaded, or stored using electronic tools are and remain the property of the City.
