Job OverviewA Paid Teacher Resident is a year long, full-time position supervised by a university supervisor and Host Teacher. The Paid Teacher Resident will actively engage in the assigned classroom throughout the residency using a gradual release model to assume responsibilities. The Paid Teacher Resident will work with the Host Teacher, teacher leaders, and/or a team of teachers to plan and implement instructional best practices. The incumbent will also provide related educational services for students in assigned grade levels, manage student behavior, assess and evaluate student achievement, and modify instructional activities as required as well as carry out a variety of student monitoring and controls activities. Paid Teacher Resident agrees to accept a position (upon successful completion of residency) within FBISD for one year. Typical responsibilities include: Delivering instruction: large-group, small-group, individual, and digital instruction, using the designed lesson plans. Monitoring and improving instruction with assessments, grading, data analysis, and rubrics to identify next teaching steps. Adapting and improving high-standards, differentiation-ready lesson plans that motivate. Paid Teacher Residents will work closely with experienced FBISD teachers and their college supervisors to learn how to promote student ownership of learning.
Position DescriptionEssential Duties and ResponsibilitiesPlanning and Instruction- Use backward design to plan appropriate instructional/learning strategies and activities including assessments in alignment with the Fort Bend ISD curriculum
- Implement an instructional program which provides appropriate learning experiences, considering different learning styles and a range of learning abilities
- Assess student abilities as related to desired educational goals, objectives and outcomes. Monitor and analyze student assessment data
- Set high expectations of achievement for each student
- Hold students accountable for high expectations of learning with measurable standards of academic achievement
- Utilize a variety of instructional materials and available multi-media and computer technology to enhance learning
- Identify and address individual students' social, emotional, and behavioral learning needs and barriers
- Identify and address individual students' development of organizational and time-management skills
- Incorporate whole group, small group and individual instruction to meet individual student needs
- Incorporate systems for students to take ownership of their learning, goals, and progress
Campus Environment- Manage the behavior of learners in the instructional setting to ensure environment is conducive to the learning process, assist and participate in management of student behavior in other parts of the campus
- Assist in the safe and orderly movement of all students to and from classrooms
- Hold students accountable for high expectations of behavior and engagement that are accessible
- Establish a culture of respect, enthusiasm, and rapport
- Together, create physical classroom environments conducive to collaborative and individual learning
- Compile, maintain and file/submit all reports, records and other documents required

- Manage procedures, supervise students, and develop students' social emotional skills during transitions, lunch, recess, assemblies, and other activities while other teachers plan or deliver instruction
Professional Responsibilities- Attend and engage in Paid Teacher Resident Orientation provided by FBISD
- Solicit and eagerly receive feedback from the Host Teacher, campus principal, and university supervisor following informal and formal observations to promote ongoing improvement of instructional practices
- Maintain confidentiality of student information
- Participate in team planning, Professional Learning Communities, campus based professional development, campus faculty meetings, and meetings with the university supervisor to enhance the skills/knowledge to serve students
- Meet with team, teacher leaders and Host Teacher to ensure alignment of instructional vision and delivery in all classrooms and to troubleshoot students' persistent learning challenges
- Regularly monitor student learning through use of rubrics, grading, assessment, and data analysis to identify next steps in teaching
- Maintain regular communication with families, as assigned; work collaboratively with them to design learning both at home and at school, and to encourage a home life conducive to learning success
- Continually communicate with students on instructional expectations and keep them informed of their progress in meeting those expectations
- Collaborate with the Host Teacher to oversee the learning and development of assigned students through effective instructional planning, co-teaching, facilitation of whole group and small group instruction, and use of data to make instructional decisions
- Compile, maintain and file/submit all reports, records and other documents required
- Support or participate in school wide student activities and social events and approved fund raising activities

- Minimum of 60 hours of college hours eligible to student teach, classified as a senior at an accredited college or university
- Minimum of 6 months of experience working with elementary age children and knowledge of the learning process preferred
- Be enrolled in an approved educator preparation program
- Be selected as a Paid Teacher resident as part of the application process through the University and Fort Bend ISD
- Demonstrate knowledge of content, curriculum and instruction methods, materials and resource of instruction to which assigned
- Ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers and parents
- Strong oral and written communication skills required
- Ability to follow policy and procedures in campus and district handbook
- Ability to plan, teach and self-reflect
- Receptive and accepting of constructive criticism
- Be available to attend meetings and conferences before and after school
