Position Type: Tutors/PALS TutorDate Posted: 6/26/2024Location: Elementary SchoolsPALS: Phonological Awareness Literacy Screening General Definition of Work: The PALS tutor works, under the direct supervision of classroom teachers, with students to assist them in learning strategies that will enhance their reading skills. Qualifications:
- Must have a minimum of a high-school diploma;
- Strong communication skills;
- Ability to receive direction from the classroom teacher;
- Work as a team member with the faculty; and
- School experience is strongly preferred.
Position Summary:
- The PALS instructor supports the classroom teacher in implementing the school's reading program by providing students with remediation under the direct supervision of the teacher.
- The PALS instructor provides remediation to students in a one-on-one setting or in small group setting.
- .The PALS instructor provides instruction either in the classroom or in a resource area as directed by the teacher or Reading specialist.
Physical Requirements: This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 25 pounds of force; work regularly requires speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel and reaching with hands and arms, frequently requires standing and walking and occasionally requires sitting, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, pushing or pulling, lifting and repetitive motions; work requires close vision, distance vision, color perception and peripheral vision; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts and observing general surroundings and activities; work occasionally requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions and exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, playground, classroom, light traffic).
