Schedule and Pay: 2nd Shift: Monday through Thursday 3:00 PM - 1:15 AM ; Friday & Saturday OT hours vary Salary Grade E Job Summary: The Paint Shed Technician is responsible for receiving, storing, and mixing finishing materials in preparation for use on the finishing lines. Job Duties:
- Prepares paint materials for lines as specified by formula or specifications, adjusting with solvents or reducers as needed, to meet viscosity requirements, and catalyzation instructions per process and delivers to appropriate painting area. Documents paint material prepared.
- Follows proper process for all materials in the shed to include hazardous material procedures (bonding/grounding), rotation of stock, (ensures oldest product is being used first) monitoring inventory (completes inventory sheets on shed materials weekly), cleaning changing filters, etc.
- Understands the chemistry formulizations concerning the neutralization of catalyzed paint and determines when catalyzed paint can be responsibly used.
- Possesses comprehensive knowledge of all finishing processes.
- Checks pumps to ensure proper working condition for intended product to include air pressure, throat sealant, loose fittings, cracks, etc. Inspects, repairs and/or replaces pumps, hoses, intakes, fittings, agitators, and lines as needed on a continuous basis.
- Ensure the paint lines and pumps are properly flushed or neutralized to prevent production problems or product failure.
- Rotates stock to ensure oldest product is consumed first and fills out inventory sheets on shed materials as required weekly.
- Unloads tanker trucks of product in proper location.
- Maintains primary responsibility for hazardous waste storage area and for preparing hazardous wastes correctly for shipment.
- Inspects, repairs and/or replaces pumps, hoses, intakes, fitting, agitator and lines as needed on a continuous basis.
- Recognizes inconsistency in paint to include color, viscosity, separation time, etc. and alerts proper personnel as needed.
- Troubleshoots paint problems to include fish eye, bubbles, salty or milky finishes, etc., and takes corrective action as needed documenting any changes to formulas into logs.
- Notifies paint purchasers on low levels of any paint materials or solvents.
- Follows all established safety and environmental regulations to include disposal of hazardous waste and reports any unsafe conditions to the appropriate personnel.
- Uses the tint wheel to make colored primers.
- Gathers bases and primers to assist the paint lab in mixing colors.
- Coordinates with shipping and customer service the preparation of extra finish sent to customers requested.
- Monitors inventory of some touch-up materials and prepares select touch-up products as needed.
