Job Summary
Responsible for performing work of varying difficulty related to applications used for interior and exterior surfaces in campus owned properties and facilities. Reports to the Building Maintenance Supervisor or Director of Facilities.
Responsibilities
* Selects, prepares, matches and/or applies coats of paint, varnish, stain, enamel, or lacquer to decorate and protect interior or exterior surfaces, trimmings, and fixtures of buildings and other structures.
* Smooths, removes, prepares and/or fills surfaces using various methods.
* Performs various tasks using pressure washers, pressure sprayers, airless sprayers and other common painting power tools.
* Erects scaffolding or sets up ladders to perform tasks above ground level.
* Hangs wallpaper and fabrics.
* Maintains building exterior waterproofing and moisture migration control.
* Performs minor carpentry repairs, including interior plaster, wallboard, stair treads, base shoe, floor tile and ceiling tile.
* Assists in assessing painting needs through regular building surveys and inspections.
* Assists with minor carpentry work, general maintenance and/or grounds as needed.
* Operates and maintains a variety of hand tools and power tools used related to tasks performed.
* Performs preventative maintenance and minor repairs on campus equipment used.
* Observes safe work methods and uses appropriate safety equipment; secures worksites from safety hazards as necessary; attends safety meetings and applicable training.
* Receives and completes work orders and other requests for work.
* Maintains accurate records of work performed and materials used in applicable record keeping systems used.
* Inspects assigned areas and corrects or reports safety hazards as appropriate.
* Perform other relevant duties as assigned such as special projects, programs, developmental activities, etc.
Required Qualifications
* High school diploma or equivalent.
* Minimum of three years of relevant experience.
* Must be familiar with the terminology of the trade; Must have experience applying all types of primers, lacquers, paints, varnishes, etc.; Must be familiar with all common painting hand tools including texture guns, paint mixers, trowels, spray guns, brushes/rollers, drills, sanders, etc.; Must know proper methods of preparation for interior and exterior surfaces to provide long lasting finishes.
* Valid driver's license.

Minimum salary: $35,500 ($17.06/hr)

* The work requires climbing, bending, stooping, kneeling, and/or carrying/lifting of heavy objects. Subject to various weather conditions. Works with hazardous chemicals which require caution and safe handling. Must be able to lift over 50 pounds. Must be able to assemble and breakdown and climb ladders/scaffolding.
* Must be able to work in dusty and/or noisy environment.
* Must use appropriate personal protective equipment as required (e.g. safety glasses, gloves, etc.).
* Must be able to work overtime, after hours and weekends for special events and/or emergencies.
