10 East Hartford, Connecticut Minimum Experience **Entry-level** Compensation **DOE** United Steel is currently seeking a Shop Painter for its Structural Steel department . This position safely performs various duties as assigned and outlined below. This position qualifies for a $1,000.00 hiring bonus for new hires or rehires!

* Hired or Rehired individual receives $500 after successful completion of 30 days employment.

* Hired or Rehired individual receives another $500 after successful completion of 90 days employment.

Duties & Responsibilities

* Ensures that all safety equipment is in place and utilized, including all guards and personal protective equipment. Ensures proper storage of paint, thinners, rages, fire extinguishers, and personal protective equipment.

* Prepares beam by brushing or power tool cleaning (grinder with wire wheel) to ensure surface is prepped properly for painting.

* Stages material by derrick for loading.

* Performs daily housekeeping in area of operation to ensure metal dust does not accumulate.

* Ensures that material being moved is within weight restrictions for the lifting equipment.

* Ensures that no material is being hoisted over people in the area.

* Ensures a clear path from point of origin to final destination.

* Ensures that loads are properly supported and secured using appropriate chains, clamps, dogs, etc.

* Operates overhead cranes, forklifts, and other related material handling equipment.

* Ensures that the maximum psi of 30 for air hoses is not exceeded.

* Paints pieces based on requirements of job for proper mill thickness as noted by quality control.

* Reviews quality control board to select type of paint matches the job number on part.

* Daily inspection of equipment for operation and safety prior to operation of equipment, including basic preventive maintenance.

Qualifications

* Six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

* Ability to read, and write both alpha and numeric, ability to read and interpret tape measures, cut lists and blue prints.

* Math Ability: Ability to apply concepts such as addition, multiplication, subtraction, division, fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations

* Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret a variety of plan instructions and deal with abstract and concrete variables.

Working Conditions

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts , noise and vibration. The employee is occasionally exp osed to a variety of condition within a manufacturing environment. The company provides engineering controls, PPE and regular training to mitigate the employees exposure to these elements.
