About the Position: This role is an on-campus, in-person position. This is painting work at the journeyman level. It includes, but is not limited to maintaining and repairing painted surfaces and wall coverings on SMU buildings interior and exterior. Some evening and weekend work may be required for emergencies or scheduled projects. Emergency work may or may not be related to painting duties. Essential Functions: Clean and prepare surfaces to be painted or wallpapered. Paint walls, ceilings, doors, and trim. Strip, stain and refinish doors and furniture. Make small repairs to drywall or plaster. Estimates for paint jobs. Procure materials and deliver to job site. Clean up after job. Must have ability to move furniture or equipment as necessary to gain access to areas that need patching and/or painting. Responsible for repairing and patching plaster and drywall. Ability to use ladders, scaffolding and lifts to reach high areas that need patching or painting. Other duties as assigned Education and Experience: A high school degree or equivalent is required. A minimum of three (3) years of maintenance painting experience is required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Candidate with knowledge of proper methods of preparing various surfaces for painting and finishing is key. Must also possess knowledge of tinting latex and oil base paints. Must have the ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions with minimal supervision. Candidate must demonstrate ability to manage CMMS/IWMS, Basic knowledge of Word and Excel applications. Candidate must demonstrate strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate broadly across the University and develop and maintain effective relationships with a wide range of constituencies. Must also demonstrate strong written communication skills. Candidate must possess strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and analyze problems, as well as devise solutions. Must also have strong organizational, planning and time management skills.
