This position is unionized 40 hours a week, non-exempt, 12 months, 1st shift, and will report to Facilities Services. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Performs skilled work in preparing, painting, preserving and decorating surfaces of buildings and other structures and equipment with paint, varnish, latex, epoxies, resins and other coating materials; makes signs. Prepares wood, metal and other surfaces for the application of paint, latex or other appropriate coating liquids for decoration or preservation purposes.Mixes paint or other appropriate liquids as required to obtain proper blend and consistency for use intended.Prepares dry-wall joints by spackling, repair cracks and imperfections in plaster, wood and other surfaces; repair glazing.Removes old finish by scraping, chemical or heat application to prepare for refinishing.Uses knowledge of primary and secondary colors to mix or blend paints or stains to match a predetermined color or select colors that are suitable for items being coated.Selects appropriate coating materials and apply to building surface, furniture, equipment or other items as directed, using brushes, rollers, spray guns or other appropriate tools.Assists supervisors in planning, and estimating time and materials required for jobs.Aids supervision in establishing a paint schedule.Assists other University employees in the performance of their duties as required to meetUniversity priorities or as directed.Monitors supplies and in cooperation with supervision insure that proper stock levels of essential materials are maintained.Makes repairs to wallpapers and vinyl wall coverings.Stripes parking lots.Other duties as assigned.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervises student workers as assigned; may be assigned to supervise other crafts workers in minor painting projects. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.ability to handle work and lifting common to this trade; ability to work from ladders, scaffolds, and in underground tunnels; ability to respond to call-ins for emergency repairs; be self-directing and able to supervise others; skilled in use of and care of hand and power tools common to the trade EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: high school diploma or equivalent, completion of apprentice program or equivalent work experience;CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: possess and maintain valid Ohio driver's licenseLANGUAGE SKILLS: Must demonstrate professional level oral and written communications skills including grammar.MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Must be competent in general math.TECHNICAL SKILLS:Working knowledge of safety practices and precautions and occupational hazards associated with the painting trade.Skill in using hand and power tools common to the trade including, but not limited to brushes, rollers, air and airless spray equipment, and outdoor striping machines.Working knowledge of use, proper surface preparation and application of materials commonly used in the painting trade including, but not limited to latex, acrylic, alkyd, epoxy, urethane paints, surfacers and primers.Working knowledge of plaster, drywall and spackling application and repairs.Working knowledge of how to make stencils, lay out and make signs.REASONING ABILITY: Must possess excellent attention to details; must be a team player and interact collegially and professionally with co-workers and other constituencies.PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
