WASHINGTON CORRECTIONS CENTER (WCC)

FULL-TIME - NON-PERMANENT

The Department of Corrections is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual for the non-permanent position of Painter Supervisor at the Washington Corrections Center located in Shelton, Washington.

Washington Corrections Center (WCC) is located 35 miles west of Olympia, the state capitol. WCC is the Reception and Diagnostic Center, a close-custody facility with the primary responsibility to process, test, and classify all adult male felons sentenced to prison in Washington State. The facility has eight living units and houses approximately 1,500 incarcerated individuals. 600 incarcerated individuals are screened and assessed each month. WCC is also major hub for transfer of incarcerated individuals to and from facilities throughout the state.

Under the direction of the Construction Maintenance Project Supervisor, this position supervises painters and/or directs a crew of incarcerated individuals of correctional institutions and performs skilled painting work. They coordinate work with other trades and staff as needed to maintain a high level of security and safety throughout the institution. This position supports the mission by assisting other staff in maintaining the psychical plant which helps create a better environment for staff and incarcerated individuals.

Typical work consists of:

* Plans, supervises, and inspects the work of 4 to 12 incarcerated individuals doing all types of interior and exterior painting.

* Coordinating all work with other trades and staff as needed to maintain a high level of security and safety throughout the institution. Painting is by means of brush, roller, airless, and conventional spray, using oil base, latex, acrylic, lacquer, stain sealers, conventional and waterborne epoxy systems.

* Plans, instructs, supervises, and inspects vinyl printer operations, plotter operations, and silk-screening operations of the t-shirt/jumpsuits.

* Maintain records of work performed, painting materials, and timesheets of incarcerated individual workers.

* Conducts, monitors and maintains logs of safety classes, shop safety, tool training, respirator fit testing and logs paint booth operations for incarcerated individual and staff workers.

* Layout, setup and fabricate all needed signs for WCC grounds and facility buildings in accordance with policy.

* Acts as liaison for the paint department with vendors and contractors.

* Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED:

* Valid Driver's license.

* Two years of experience as journey-level painter.
