Job Description:

Job Summary: This position is responsible for painting and sandblasting heavy equipment, oil field pump skids, generator packages, and related equipment in a shop environment.Essential Functions:Performs painting preparation process to assure quality paint applicationOperates painting or coating tools on assigned equipment to improve the appearance that results in customer satisfactionStraightens body panels and fendersFills small dents that cannot be worked out with body fillerFiles, grinds, sands, and smooths filled or repaired surfacesSands or sandblasts areas to be painted and cover bumpers, windows, and trim with masking tape or paper for protectionPrimes and paints repaired surfaces with care, skill, and detail using applicable manufacturer paints and standards; details equipmentMaintains paint booth and painting equipment. Maintains the paint booth clean and in safe working orderPerforms light mechanical work to replace parts (e.g. handles, hinges, panels, etc.)Removes and applies equipment decalsPerforms final checks on assembly and installation of parts that were replacedControls labor costs at or below quoted flat rates in order to achieve departmental goalsCompletes necessary paperwork on a daily basis in order to provide timely invoicingMaintains and controls company property and resources in a manner to ensure cleanliness and reliability, and minimizes expensesCompletes special projects as requested by the department supervisor in order to meet customer and/or business needsMaintains and completes daily/monthly usage or material consumption reports required for EPA/OSHA; as well as procuring, supplying, and maintaining any current and new MSDS information records for allDisposes of hazardous waste in an appropriate manner, and maintains all equipment and work areas - keeps in good, clean, and orderly conditionWorks overtime as required by workload and customers' needsUpdates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunitiesWorks safely at all times and adheres to all applicable safety policies; complies with all company policies, procedures, and standardsRequires regular and punctual employee attendancePerforms other duties as assignedKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities:General knowledge of tools, equipment, methods, materials, and terminology used in the painting tradeGeneral knowledge of safety procedures as they relate to the use of paints, solvents, glues, tools, and equipmentDemonstrates basic knowledge of estimating, planning, and controlling the cost of repair jobsDemonstrates proficiency with current computer software, related hardware, and electronic machine systemsKnowledge of safety procedures as they relate to the use of paints, solvents, glues, tools, and equipmentSkilled in the application of paints and other finishes by brush or spray gunQuality control analysis skills to conduct tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performanceOperation and control skills for controlling the operation of equipment or systems •Equipment selection skills by determining the kinds of tools and equipment needed to do a jobAbility to operate a forklift and an overhead craneThe ability to quickly and repeatedly operate the controls of a machine or a vehicle to exact positionsAbility to operate hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, and equipment used in mechanical repairThe ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objectsThe ability to read, write, and understand informationThe ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentencesAbility to learn the more complex aspects of the paint tradeEducation and Experience: Three or more years of experience in painting and/or body work in automotive or similar shop environment preferredHigh school diploma or equivalent preferred; associate degree or technical training from an accredited vocational school strongly preferredSupervisory Responsibilities:NoneTravel:Up to 10% travel maybe expectedPhysical Requirements:Must be able to move objects, and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigueFrequently moves materials or equipment weighing up to 80 poundsConstant movement and use of limbs; this position requires good manual dexterity, coordination, and staminaAscends/descends with gradual or continuous progress by oneself, using both hands and feet and climbs up and down ladders and/or equipmentBe able to maneuver safely and work underneath equipmentRoutinely reacts to visual, auditory, and other signals, including alarms and instructions, and is required to visually inspect workWork Environment:Regularly works indoors in non-controlled environmental conditions and around moving mechanical parts, unfavorable fumes and odors, and hazardous chemicalsMay be exposed to weather extremes when working outside in conditions that include inclement weather, heat, cold, and humidityIncludes exposure to sounds and noise levels that are distracting or uncomfortableExposure to contaminants, small quantities of chemicals, dust, steam, high-pressure water, and high-speed rotating equipmentRequires wearing specialized protective or safety equipmentRequired to perform work in cramped spaces and/or high placesRequires being exact or highly accurateDisclaimer: Please note that the above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by employees assigned to this classification.
