Under general supervision, the Painting Tech I is responsible for applying coats of paint, varnish, stain, enamel, or lacquer to decorate and protect exterior surfaces, trimmings, and fixtures of buildings and structures throughout Liberty University campus. Working independently and exercising good judgment and discretion is essential to this job.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIESAs essential personnel: you are expected to be available in the event of school closings, delays, shutdowns, and any emergencies including clean up required because of severe weather incidents. Performs snow removal activities as assigned. Such as shoveling, salting, etc. Facilities Management Division employees are essential to the overall success of Liberty University and its day-to-day functions, especially during ongoing campus events such as Winter Fest, Orientation, Convocation, Commencement, CFAW, and summer camps amongst other planned and unplanned events throughout the year. Must be available to work scheduled and unscheduled hours as emergency needs arise.Reports to work at the required time and performs duties as assigned by the painting supervisor and/or Lead.Responsible for wearing the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment () while performing the job duties and responsibilities of a Painting Tech I and while operating related equipment including but not limited to; protective eye wear, ear protection, hard hat, gloves, steel-toed shoe, respirators/ masks, reflective safety vests, and sunscreen.Responsible for wearing a harness with a lanyard and other if operating aerial lifts to perform & complete assigned jobs.Familiar with the standard concepts, practices, and procedures of the painting trade.Ensures proper care in the use of maintenance of equipment and supplies.Smooths and prepares surfaces for painting including sanding, removing old paint using paint removers, scrapers, wire brushes, or heat gun.Tape, float, and texture walls and ceilings.Applies coats of paint, varnishes, and stains to interior and/ or exterior surfaces with brush and roller.Assists with filling nail holes, cracks, and joints with caulk, putty, plaster, or other fillers using a caulking gun or a putty knife.Primes surfaces as necessary.Erect scaffolding or set up ladder to perform tasks above ground level.Some knowledge of equipment, materials, methods, practices, procedures, and tools used in the painting trade.Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job.Assists with the receiving and completing of work orders while maintaining the workload.Reports to Supervisor or lead technician.Works under immediate supervision.Identifies and communicates problems or defects to the Painting Supervisor and/ or Lead Painter.Ability to work a flexible schedule when needed-some nights and weekends.Must have a valid driver's license.Follows established safety procedures and techniques and ensures employees have knowledge and training of all applicable safety procedures and are provided with essential safety PPE.Performs a variety of tasks as assigned.Reports to Supervisor or lead technician.Other duties as assignedMust provide own hand tools to perform and complete trade related tasks.Remains abreast of existing and emerging technologies, processes, products, services, and leading industry performance benchmarks.Works effectively as a team member, embracing and fostering LU's mission.QUALIFICATIONS AND CREDENTIALSEducation and ExperienceHigh School diploma or GED. 1+ year of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience preferred. Must be able to understand and follow instructions, and work under limited supervision. Must be able to work well with the public and co-workers and present a positive attitude. Exceptional self-management. Desire to work with a team to accomplish goals. Urgency to grow and improve. Knowledge in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access) and basic computer skills are a plus. Clean and professional appearance. Must be courteous, detailed oriented. Self-motivated, diligent, trustworthy, possess strong organizational and planning skills and well-developed communication skills. Must be able to lift up to 50+ pounds and perform duties of the Painting trade in typical Virginia Climate. This position might require the use of and operation of aerial lifts or be willing and able to obtain aerial lift certifications, operate, and work from various aerial lifts and heights. Certifications obtained while employed by Liberty University at the expense of the employer will be reimbursed back to the University upon voluntary termination (resignation) for the first 12 months after acquiring it. It involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that required following extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment.
