Assistant Professor/Clinical, Non-Tenure TrackDepartment of Pediatrics - Palliative Care PhysicianThe Department of Pediatrics, Division of Palliative Care, Joe R. & Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine at UT Health San Antonio is seeking a full-time Pediatric Palliative Care Physician to join our faculty as an Assistant Professor/Clinical in the Non-Tenure Track.The Pediatric Palliative Care Team provides comprehensive inpatient and outpatient palliative care at the affiliated academic hospital University Health. The pediatric team partners with the adult team to provide robust services from prenatal through young adult. We are Joint Commission accredited in palliative care and received a Circle of Life award from the AHA in 2019. The Complex and Palliative Pediatric service line includes five physicians, nurse coordinators, perinatal coordinators, chaplain, child life therapist, social workers, dieticians, and team managers. Team values include innovative, meaningful patient care; the joy of teamwork; and personal well-being. The team has a high consult penetrance in all hospital service lines and collaborates with the primary care complex care medical home. The physicians provide hospice care through an affiliated hospice. A new Women's and Children's Hospital opened in 2023 to accommodate San Antonio's rapidly growing population. We are seeking a physician to provide primarily inpatient pediatric and perinatal palliative care. This provider will split time with the other Palliative Providers to lead the interdisciplinary inpatient pediatric team. The physician will supervise eight adult-focused palliative fellows as they rotate on pediatrics as well as one pediatric-focused palliative fellow. The clinical service provides consultative care to children with complex, chronic life-limiting conditions, and those at the end of life. The program focuses on Perinatal Diagnoses and Children with Medical Complexity. The program cares for children and their families with a wide array of clinical conditions including genetic disorders, severe trauma, neuromuscular disorders, complex multi-system conditions, congenital heart disorders, transplant recipients, technology-dependency, and cancer. The provider will coordinate the care of complex care patients admitted to the hospital and will facilitate the transition of care during admission or discharge. The addition of this position will allow the expansion of outpatient services.Additional responsibilities include teaching pediatric residents and medical students in the clinical setting and contributing to the educational, research, and service missions of the Division, Department, and Institution. Scholarly activity is highly encouraged; program development, quality improvement, and research opportunities are available. The candidate must be board-certified / eligible in Palliative Care by the American Board of Hospice and Palliative Medicine.
