Paralegal Aide Series (Torts)Job ID: 6457Business Unit: MABSTOALocation: Brooklyn, NY, United StatesRegular/Temporary: RegularDepartment: TortsDate Posted: Jun 27, 2024DescriptionJob InformationParalegal Aide Series - JVN 6457First date of posting: 5/29/2024Last date of posting: Open Until FilledAuthority: OA / TADepartment: LawDivision/Unit: TortsReports To: Deputy Executive Agency Counsel/Assistant General Counsel/Director of Legal SupportWork Location: 130 Livingston Street, Brooklyn, NY 11201Hours of Work: 9:00AM 5:00PMCompensationParalegal Aide I: Min: $46,144 Max: $54,528Paralegal Aide II: Min: $52,999 - Max: $64,490SummaryUnder supervision, this position performs paralegal tasks associated with the defense of personal injury and property damage matters brought against MTA agencies through various stages of legal proceedings in response to departmental needs.ResponsibilitiesDuties may include, but are not limited to:Preparing correspondence, investigative reports and other documents; review and handle requests for investigation and discovery.Respond to court orders.Prepare expert exchanges and trial subpoenas.Conduct legal research; coordinate the scheduling of witnesses for depositions and trial.Coordinate scheduling of depositions, independent medical examinations, and other expert and document reviews.Updating various court calendars and making computer entries.Aid in the overall management of cases throughout litigationEducation and ExperienceA baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university; orAn associate degree or completion of 60 semester credits from an accredited college or university and two years of full-time satisfactory experience, acquired in the United States, in the performance of paralegal (legal assistant) services; orA four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and four years of full-time satisfactory experience, acquired in the United States, in the performance of paralegal (legal assistant) services; orA satisfactory combination of education and/or experience which is equivalent to 1 , 2 or 3 above. Paralegal Certification obtained in the United States from an accredited program or from a program approved by the American Bar Association can be substituted for 12 months of experience. Undergraduate credit can be substituted for experience on the basis of 30 semester credits from an accredited college or university for 12 months of experience. However, all candidates must have at least a four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent.To be acceptable, experience in paralegal (legal assistant) services must have involved the American Legal System.
