This is a full-time position, Monday - Friday, hours per week are 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. This position is with our Child Support Division physically located at 605 S 10th Street Lincoln, NE 68508.The purpose of this position is to perform a wide variety of child support duties in Nebraska and other States consisting of maintaining a caseload, locating, and working with custodial and/or non-custodial parents and others to elicit factual information for the purpose of establishing child support obligations and enforcing child support laws. Nature of Work/Examples of Work PerformedWhat does a Day in the Life look like? Receive and process referrals for location of non-custodial parents in non-support claims. Work daily with other state agencies. Work with non-custodial parent to provide information and advice concerning program policy, procedures and guidelines as they relate to child support obligations, collection and distribution. Initiate legal action and/or genetic testing to determine and/or establish paternity.Use administrative process and/or legal referral for the establishment of child support and/or medical support orders. Evaluate non-custodial parent's income and expenses to compute the child support obligation amount. Review and initiates enforcement action on non-paying child support cases by making phone calls to non-paying parents, filing orders, and issuing income withholding orders, filing liens of various types, and filing prosecuting attorney and interstate referrals. Perform general miscellaneous administrative duties as required on a day-to-day basis. Maintain confidentiality of records and information as required. Establish positive working relationships with Clerk of the District Court, out of state caseworkers, and Health and Human Services staff.If you're looking to jump start your career with Lancaster County, apply now to join our dynamic team.Desirable Knowledge, Abilities & Skills/Desirable Training & ExperienceExtensive knowledge of legal terminology, practices, and procedures. Extensive knowledge of State and Federal laws and regulations related to area of responsibility. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Ability to organize material into logical formats. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, the public, out of state, co-workers, and justice system personnel. Ability to identify facts/issues which may require further legal evaluation and to prepare legal documents. Ability to understand and follow complex oral and written instructions. Thorough knowledge and skill in the operation of modern office equipment and computer applications including word processing, case management, legal research, and litigation support software.
