- Certification and/or a four year degree in either Early Childhood Education, Early Childhood Special Education, Elementary Education, Vocational Home Economics, family and Consumer Sciences or Child Development and demonstrated ability in working with young children and their parents.
- Or a two-year associate degree or two-year certificate program in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or Nursing and demonstrated ability in working with young children and their parents;
- Or sixty semester hours or more of credit from an academic degree granting institution and two years working with young children and their parents as approved by DESE.

SALARY: Parent Educator Salary DEADLINE: Until FilledJOB DESCRIPTIONJOB TITLE: Parent EducatorA certified parent educator provides information; support and encouragement that parents need to help their child develop optimally during the crucial early years of life. This is accomplished by providing education in the form of personal visits, group connections, developmental screenings and linkages to a network of resources for parents and children.REPORTS TO: School of Early Childhood Principal EXAMPLE (S) of WORK PERFORMED:
- Plans and develops parent education courses in accordance with School of Early Childhood Education curriculum guidelines.
- Meets individually with parents as needed to assist with parenting education needs.
- Consults with other professionals within the family center and other district buildings as needed to assist in understanding needs of children and their parents.
- Participates in educational conferences, professional training seminars, workshops, School of Early Childhood staff and parent educator staff meetings.
- Performs other similar Parent Educator duties and responsibilities as requested by the Principal of the School of Early Childhood.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (*)(*) When a specific assignment has additional or different ESSENTIAL FUNCTION requirements, the differences will be discussed at the time of assignment.
- Regular attendance is required to service assigned responsibilities to parents.
- Requires independent travel to work sites within the district.
- Interpret textbook materials on child and family development theory for the purpose of teaching parents; read and interpret correspondence, reports, and documents for teaching and administrative purposes.
- Operates equipment as necessary to write lesson plans and curriculum for parent education.
- Prepares lessons for parents; participates in development of parent education curriculum; provides instruction to parents.
- Provides education in the form of personal visits, group connections, developmental screenings and linkages to a network of resources for parents and children.
- Discusses parent education programs with parents, teachers, administrators, and/or citizens; communicates with parents, teachers, administrators, and citizens via telephone; works with parents to assist them in better understanding their children and their development needs.
- Observes interactions of parents and children to assist in improved support of parents.
Physical Demands (Strength) -Exerts 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or -Exerts 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or -Exerts greater than negligible up to 10 pounds constantly.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES: Vocational Preparation: (Experience) - Successful completion of week-long Foundational Curriculum and Model Implementation training. - A family personal visit observation of an experienced parent educator. - Maintain current certification as a parent educator by completing the required professional development hours for years of service. - Demonstrates ability in working with young children and their parents.
