JOB TITLE: PARENT INTERPRETER JOB SUMMARY: To minimize student language barriers at school. This individual will support the instructional program for ELL students through translation of English spoken in the classroom and other settings. QUALIFICATIONS: - High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must be fluent in English and Spanish, particularly in the areas of speaking, reading, and writing.
- Health examination for new employees part-time or full-time:
Chapter 122 Article 24-5 of Illinois School Code mandates that School Boards shall require of new employees evidence of physical fitness to perform duties assigned and freedom from communicable disease, including tuberculosis. Such evidence shall consist of a physical examination and a tuberculin test and, if appropriate, an x-ray. The cost of such examination shall rest with the employee. Must pass a comprehensive drug screening. Must pass a comprehensive criminal background check. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: - Assists students, staff, teachers and parents/guardians (e.g. registration, interpreting information, newsletters, school messenger phone alerts, etc.) for the purpose of providing and/or conveying information for ELL students and their parents.
- Assists administration with communications with parents/guardians on behalf of the school (e.g. pertinent district policies, curriculum, assessment, handbook/code of conduct, attendance, classroom performance, parent/teacher conferences, food service information, available programs/services, school events, Parent University, Care to Learn/Neighbor Helping Neighbor, etc.) to ensure that an ongoing partnership between the home and school is maintained.
- Interpret and/or coordinate interpretation/translation services for parent meetings.
- Performs accurate record-keeping and clerical functions (e.g. scheduling, copying, etc.) for the purpose of providing necessary records, materials, and preparation for meetings.
- Responds to inquiries from a variety of internal and external sources (e.g. parents, students, teachers, staff, outside agencies, etc.) for the purpose of providing information and/or directions required.
- Complies with District policies and regulations.
- Effectively addresses unforeseen situations associated with working with children.
- Attends staff meetings and district workshops as directed.
- Maintains confidentiality and integrity.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
