SUMMARY:
Assists the principal in establishing and maintaining the relationship between parents, teachers, and volunteers at the campus and in bridging the gap between home and school by helping parents get the information and support they need to ensure their child's academic and social success.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Facilitates and fosters a positive working environment between the school and home
Engages parents to become full partners with the school
Works with teachers, parents, students, and volunteers to increase student achievement
Assists in securing input from parents, teachers, staff, and volunteers on program planning, implementation, and evaluation of campus needs
Organizes parent and family engagement activities, resources, and communications
Provides parent and family engagement tips, strategies, and ideas to staff and parents
Assists in coordinating, scheduling, and leading parent and family engagement meetings and trainings for staff, parents and volunteers
Facilitates, if at an elementary campus, an early literacy club for pre-school aged children which models strategies for parents and provides basic early literacy skills aimed at increasing student success
Assists with student attendance phone calls to parents
Makes personal contacts to parents/families, to include home visits when accompanied by another staff member
Assists in securing information from parents regarding specific needs of their children and provides information or referral to the appropriate individual(s) for consultation
Develops a monthly calendar and/or newsletter of parent and family engagement events
Attends monthly parent liaison training sessions
Carries out the activities noted in the campus Parent and Family Engagement Policy
Assists with the implementation of home school compacts between parents, school, and students
Maintains compliance documentation to show evidence of implementation of Title I requirements as noted in the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), Section 1116
Performs other such related tasks as may be assigned by the principal
No more than 10% of the duty day (approximately 45 minutes) may be spent on operational tasks outside the parent and family engagement responsibilities
Collaborates with Bilingual Parent Liaison, if campus has the position, to accomplish these responsibilities
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This job has no supervisory responsibilities; however, the Parent Liaison Aide works closely with parents, teachers, and volunteers.

EDUCATION or EXPERIENCE:
Elementary and Middle School Campuses:
Title I campus requires 48 semester hours of accredited college with some emphasis in child growth and development or related courses. Must be 18 years of age or older.
High School Campuses:
High school diploma or GED and three years verifiable experience as an educational aide, or 30 semester hours of college credit with some emphasis in child growth and development or related courses.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to students, other employees of the organization, and parents.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
