SHIFT TYPE: Full-Time, 40 hours per weekPERIOD OF EMPLOYMENT: 11 months PURPOSE OF JOB: To provide parent education and support through personal visits, group meetings, screening and referral to resource network for parents and children.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Provide parent education using the appropriate Parents as Teachers (PAT) Curriculum in accordance with DESE Program Guidelines and Administrative Manual to families and children ages prenatal through kindergarten entry.
Responsible for providing the required number of personal visits, group meetings, developmental screenings, resource information, and making appropriateAssess family needs, create family goals, and provide developmentally appropriate information, guidance, and support to parents.Maintain accurate and confidential records and data on services provided to families.Recruit new families for the program while building community relationships.Maintain Parents as Teachers certification by participating in annual professional development opportunities. Follow specific Parents as Teachers district program procedures and adhere to the adopted Board of Education policies.Other duties as assigned by the Coordinator.Reports to the Hazelwood Parents as Teachers Coordinator.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education, Early Childhood Special Education, Elementary Education, Child Development, Vocational Home Economics or Family and Consumer Sciences.
- Ability to effectively communicate with parents, children, school personnel, and other professionals.
- Knowledge of principles of child development and developmentally appropriate practices.
- Possess a valid driver's license and be able to provide own transportation; must be able to present proof of insurance.
- Availability to work some weeknights and Saturdays, if needed
- Certification in the Parents as Teachers Foundational Curriculum, Foundational 2 Curriculum and Model Implementation. If not previously completed, training will be provided.
