The Neosho School District is searching for a Parents as Teachers Parent Educator. Parent Educators are responsible for providing parent education to families with children from birth to kindergarten entry. Educators will complete required number of personal visits and must demonstrate the ability to work with parents and their children in the home setting. Duties and ResponsibilitiesPlan, provide and document home visits. Educators must have a flexible schedule to accommodate scheduling of visits. Evening visits one to two nights per week are required.Conduct yearly developmental screeningsParticipate in recruitment of familiesPlan and attend group connection activitiesComplete required number of annual professional development hours Be highly organized and accountableBe an independent and self-motivated workerQualificationsParent educators must meet one of the following criteria:
- Four year degree in either Early Childhood Education, Early Childhood Special Education, Elementary Education, Vocational Home Economics, Family and Consumer Sciences or Child Development and demonstrated ability in working with young children and their parents; or
- A two-year associate degree or two-year certificate program in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or Nursing and demonstrated ability in working with young children and their parents; or
- Sixty semester hours or more of credit from an academic degree granting institution which is contained within the United States Department of Education's Directory of Post-Secondary Institutions and two years of successful experience in a program working with young children and their parents; or
- Five years of successful experience in a program working with young children and their parents and a high school diploma or equivalent.
All Parent Educators must successfully complete week long certification training through Parents as Teachers National Center.
