- Planning and conducting personal visits with families, focusing on parent-child interaction, development-centered parenting and family well-being;
- Planning, implementing and evaluating group connections (parent group meetings and stay and plays), working with other Parent Educators and members of partnering school district;
- Conducting screenings (hearing, vision, development, and health record) at least annually for all children served; and
- Conducting Family and Parent assessments
- Connecting families to resources as needed from community resource network, helping them overcome barriers to access and supporting families in setting goals.
The parent educator/home visitor will be trained and have experience in the Parents as Teachers curricula, Both the Foundational 1 and Foundational II, and use them as resources to enhance developmentally appropriate activities and child development information for families. QUALIFICATIONS: Professional Requirements 1. Bachelor's degree in early childhood or related field preferred 2. Two years' experience working with children and/or families 4. Values diversity of language, race, and/or ethnic background. 5. Demonstrates family-centered practices.PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: General Responsibilities:
Completes family-centered needs assessment for each family and works with family to develop a plan for how best to meet family's goals. 2. Works with family to identify activities to engage the child in play within the home context; coaches the family to implement these activities and reinforces the family. 3. Provides a variety of support services to individual and groups of parents. 4. Completes and Maintains all requirements of the Grant. 5. Maintain a case load of up to 20 families. Specific Duties/Evaluative Criteria 1. Provides services to families through home visits. • Works on a flexible schedule. • Establishes rapport with parents, other family members, and children. • Observes parent and child and communicates these observations as they relate to child development and parenting. • Addresses parental concerns and assists parents in developing strategies for strengthening their effectiveness. • Implements age appropriate parent/child activities. • Involves the parent in the activity with the child. • Completes home visit records and other required documentation in a timely manner. 2. Communicates effectively with families. • Respects individual differences and builds on strengths. • Assists family in developing goals. • Avoids educational jargon and gives concrete examples. • Expresses enthusiasm. • Listens carefully to what the parent says. • Makes appropriate use of humor. • Models appropriate adult/child interactions (Distraction, choice giving, compromise, logical consequences, planed ignoring, etc.). • Provides positive feedback and encouragement to parent. • Maintains confidentiality of family information. 3. Provides additional support services to families. • Organizes group meetings that give parents information on child development, parenting, community services. • Assists parents in accessing community services. • Makes referrals to other professionals as necessary. 4. Completes other job requirement • Maintains records needed for program documentation. • Recruits new families. • Follows-up with new referrals. • Participates in staff and team meetings.

• Works collaboratively with other staff. • Attends trainings and in-service programs. • Completes time sheets and mileage forms as requested. • Participates in professional development and program evaluation. • Performs other duties as assigned.SALARY AND TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: The Parents as Teachers Parent Educator / Home Visitor position is a part-time position and shall be employed up to twelve months per year based on need and funding. The pay rate will be as follows:
- Parent Educator Hourly part time $24/hr.
BENEFITS: This position is not eligible for state benefits or pension. EVALUATION: The Parents as Teachers Parent Educator / Home Visitor will participate regularly in reflective supervision sessions. The Parents as Teachers Parent Educator / Home Visitor will be evaluated annually by the supervisor according to the policies approved by the Lake Forest Board of Education. Three observations and evaluations will be completed during the first year of employment (two within 60 days for probation) with one annual evaluation to be completed thereafter.
