Assists with the planning, coordinating and implementing recreational programs at assigned facilities. Reports to the District Maintenance Supervisor and/or designee. Maintains a variety of park and landscape areas in order to ensure ground and landscape areas are presentable, clean, and safe; cleans offices, break rooms, restrooms, recreation centers/halls, pavilions, tables/chairs, and related areas/facilities in order to provide a clean, sanitary, and safe environment for work/recreation. Interacts with the public and other City employees in order to give directions or information, explains work activities/procedures, identifies service needs, and/or resolves day-to-day operational issues. Inspects and performs a variety of facility maintenance work at park facilities, including play areas, buildings and parking areas in order to ensure a safe work and recreation environment for employees and the public. Sets up and takes down temporary facilities for meetings, special activities and events. Picks up and delivers a variety of items to appropriate locations in order to ensure supplies and materials are available where and when needed and/or delivers mail. Performs related work as required. Minimum QualificationsKnowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of the methods, tools and practices used in the planting, transplanting, digging and cultivation of plants, shrubs, flowers, grasses and trees. Knowledge of the methods and practices of treating plants and trees for fungi, insects, parasites and diseases peculiar to subtropical climates. Knowledge of the practices and techniques used in maintenance and repair of equipment typically used in parks systems. Knowledge of the operating characteristics and maintenance requirements of equipment used in landscape work. Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions in park equipment and landscape maintenance. Knowledge of the materials, methods, and practices used in a large scale custodial operation. Knowledge of the operation, use, and care of vacuum cleaners, scrubbing machines, polishing machines, and other janitorial equipment. Knowledge of sanitation standards and occupational hazards. Skill in the use of recreation, office, janitorial, and landscape tools and equipment. Ability to scrub, mop, and polish floors, wash windows, and clean restrooms; ability to empty trash and recyclable receptacles and place trash and recyclable materials in appropriate containers. Ability to set up and put away tables, chairs, tents, bleachers, and program materials for a variety of special events and programs. Ability to record permits and similar forms; ability to collect admission fees from park patrons and to make appropriate change. Ability to perform grounds maintenance tasks such as weed eating, mowing, edging, blowing, and pressure cleaning. Ability to safely and efficiently operate maintenance equipment related to the care of athletic fields and turf and recreational activities. Ability to make directed purchases following established procedures; ability to order supplies and maintain inventory. Ability to plan and implement simple recreational programs or events; ability to participate with children in various recreational programs and events. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, other departments and the public. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to keep records and prepare routine reports. Ability to recognize plant, tree and grass diseases and pests. Ability to lift 50 pounds and physical agility sufficient to perform assigned duties. Education & Experience Requirements:High school diploma or equivalent; plus one (1) year experience in landscaping, janitorial, or a park setting. Must have valid Florida driver's license and maintain a satisfactory driving history throughout employment. Shifts vary. Must be able to work nights, weekends and holidays.
