The incumbent works according to some procedures but decides how or when to do things; work is reviewed regularly by supervisor.The work is considered light in nature and involves walking or standing much of the time and involves exerting up to 20 pounds of force on a recurring basis, or skill, adeptness and speed in the use of fingers, hands or limbs on repetitive operation of machines or tools within moderate tolerances or limits of accuracy. The work requires the following physical abilities to perform the essential job functions: crouching, fingering, handling, kneeling, lifting, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, talking, and visual acuity.Work environment may involve exposure to bright/dim light, dusts and pollen, extreme heat and/or cold, wet or humid conditions, fumes and/or noxious odors, traffic, toxic/caustic chemicals, violence; and is dynamic that requires sensitivity to change and responsiveness to changing goals, priorities, and needs. Essential Job Functions
  • Assists in coordinating and implementing Park Center and/or recreational facility programs and events for youth, adults and senior citizens with varying interests, recreational needs, and abilities, including but not limited to after-school programs, summer camps, field trips, cultural arts programs, club activities, leisure activities, sports activities, tournaments, etc.;
  • Ensures participant compliance with established rules and regulations, and standards of safety;
  • Instructs groups and individuals in recreational activities as appropriate;
  • Plans, schedules and presents cultural arts classes, workshops, performances and other events at parks and recreational sites throughout the City;
  • Evaluates programs for effectiveness; makes recommendations for changes to improve programs, services and participation as appropriate;
  • Assists in maintaining activity schedules and calendars;
  • Monitors attendance and maintains related records; assists in evaluating programs for effectiveness, and recommends changes as appropriate to improve services and programs;
  • Operates and maintains studio equipment;
  • Collaborates with other City divisions, departments and outside organizations as appropriate to maximize the success of the cultural arts program;
  • Maintains assigned vehicles and equipment;
  • Collects and accounts for program fee payments;
  • Accepts and processes reservations for facility / court use;
  • Inspects grounds and facilities for security and safety, and takes appropriate steps to ensure the safety of all staff and citizens and the protection of City property;
  • Performs basic building and grounds maintenance work as necessary;
  • Prepares records and reports concerning assigned activities and operations;
  • Participates in department marketing and public relations efforts;
  • Assists in coordinating activities and functions with those of other divisions, departments and outside agencies as appropriate;
  • Receives and responds to inquiries, concerns, complaints and requests for assistance regarding areas of responsibility;
  • Performs general clerical work as required, including preparing reports and correspondence, entering and retrieving computer data, copying and filing documents, attending meetings, answering the telephone, etc.;
  • Attends meetings, workshops, conferences, training, etc., as appropriate to enhance job knowledge and skills;
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent and three (3) years of related work experience in recreation or Associate's degree in recreation administration, performing or visual arts or closely related field and one (1) years of relevant prior experience;
  • Valid South Carolina Class D Driver's License;
  • CPR and First Aid certifications or be able to obtain within six (6) months from date of hire.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of addition and subtraction, multiplication and division, and/or calculating ratios, rates and percentages;
  • Ability to coordinate or determine time, place or sequence of operations or activities based on analysis of data or information and may implement and report on operations and activities;
  • Ability to provide information, guidance or assistance to people to directly facilitate task accomplishment; may give directions or assignments to helpers or assistants;
  • Ability to handle or use machines, tools or equipment requiring brief instruction or experience, such as computers for data entry, fax machines, copiers, telephones or similar equipment; may service office machines, including adding paper and changing toner;
  • Ability to perform coordinating work involving guidelines and rules, with constant problem-solving;
  • Ability to read routine sentences, instructions, regulations, procedures or work orders; writing routine sentences and completing routine job forms and incident reports; speaking routine sentences using proper grammar;
  • Ability to perform specialized technical or entry-level professional work requiring general understanding of operating policies and procedures and their application to problems not previously encountered; application of specialized technical or professional principles and practices or the use of a wide range of administrative methods in the solution of problems; requires normal attention with short periods of concentration for accurate results and occasional exposure to unusual pressure;
  • Ability to guide others, requiring frequent decisions affecting co-workers and others who depend on the service or product; works in a somewhat fluid environment with rules and procedures but with many variations from the routine.
