Distinguishing Characteristics: This is the journey-level classification in the Park Equipment Operator series. The incumbent operates light and/or heavy equipment and follows procedures to accomplish end results, within guidelines. Incumbent may lead the work activities of others in the absence of the Park Equipment Operator, Senior. This class is distinguished from Park Equipment Operator, Senior in that the latter is a higher-level class in the series that performs more complex technical, investigative, and supervisory duties requiring a higher level of knowledge and skill. - Operates light and/or heavy equipment required in the upkeep and operation of the areas of responsibility.

Incumbent must determine proper methods of maintenance and repair for each project. Minimum Qualifications: Knowledge of: Operation and maintenance of equipment; routine construction, repair and maintenance methods; basic safety standards; landscaping maintenance. Skill in: Communicating clearly both verbally and in writing; operating light and/or heavy equipment used in the construction, maintenance, and repair of assigned functional operations. Education: No formal education required. High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred. Experience: One (1) year of previous landscaping or construction experience which involves the operation of light and/or heavy equipment in assigned area of responsibility. Any work-related experience resulting in acceptable proficiency levels in the above Minimum Qualifications is an acceptable substitute for the above specified education and experience requirements Licenses and Certifications: Texas Class C driver's license within 30 days of hire per state law.
