Employee will be required to sign a residency agreement, which outlines the expectations for rent and utilities.Veteran Preference Statement: South Carolina is making our Veterans a priority for employment in state agencies and institutions.Job Responsibilities Redcliffe Plantation, completed in 1859, was once the home of James Henry Hammond, three generations of his descendants, and numerous African-American families like the Henleys, Goodwins, and Wigfalls who worked at the site as enslaved laborers and later as free men and women. Now one of the many historic plantations South Carolina has opened to the public, this site encompasses the ambition, wealth and power of James Henry Hammond as well as the injustices and suffering forced on the hundreds of enslaved peoples who were forced to live and work on the land. A successful cotton planter, congressman, governor and senator, Hammond spent his life defending the southern plantation system and his status within it.Job Purpose and Duties:Under general supervision, assist with overall operation and educational programming of a State Park. Performs diversified duties as governed by general instruction, policies and standard operating procedures of the Department. Assumes the responsibilities of the Park Manager in the absence of higher level employees.1) Conducts research in areas relative to Redcliffe Plantation to enhance interpretation, exhibits, and resource management. Creates educational materials for park visitors including exhibits, waysides, social media content, and newsletters.2) Plans, promotes, and conducts tours and programs at Redcliffe Plantation.3) Assist with park administrative and operational activities including retail sales, budgeting, and program attendance tracking.4) Schedule and deliver field trips to various age groups, ensure field trips meet curriculum standards.5) Employee will be required to live in designated park housing to provide for security, safety, and emergency response. Employee will assist in the regular maintenance and housekeeping of park grounds, residence, facilities, and historic structures.6) Promotes the park, the park system and the state through off-park presentations at regional and national conferences, newspaper/Parkview articles, and other media appearances.7) Recruits, trains, and supervises volunteers. Assist with supervision of part-time assistant rangers. Coordinates volunteers in conducting workshops, helping with programs, and other park projects.8) Practice and promote teamwork within the Park Service, throughout the agency and with external agency stakeholders. Represents office as an active member on agency teams assigned throughout the year.Minimum and Additional Requirements Master's degree or a Bachelor's degree and two years of experience in the interpretation, public history, or the museum field.Additional Requirements:1) Position requires light to medium lifting, walking, standing on uneven terrain, crawling, and working at heights. Work is in weather extremes.2) Ability to relate well to the general public, research and deliver program information in a positive manner. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.3) Valid SC driver license.
