DescriptionThe Park Maintenance Assistant is responsible for providing assistance to the overall care and maintenance of all Hempfield Township Parks & Recreation parks and facilities, including Hempfield Township Park, Hempfield Township Athletic Complex, and any neighborhood playground. This position is a part-time position within the department of Hempfield Township Parks & Recreation.Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the cleanliness and orderliness of park grounds (lawns, shrubs, trees, landscaping, and vegetation), park facilities (pavilions, restrooms, courts, offices) and Athletic Complex.
  • Assist in maintaining athletic activity areas (dragging, nail dragging, prepping), maintain fences, benches, drinking fountains, sidewalks, restrooms and general repairs.
  • Cleans and removes litter from parks, parking lot, and other public areas.
  • Operates and/or drives a variety of light and heavy equipment as directed.
  • Prepares pavilions and fields for rentals and events.
  • Provide support and/or supervision for other Parks & Recreation or Township events, such as Santa in The Park, special events, etc.
  • Provide other services and perform other tasks as requested or assigned by the Director of Parks & Recreation, Assistant Director of Parks & Recreation, and/or Township Manager.
  • RequirementsEducation & Experience: Minimum of a High School Diploma or GED. Previous experience in park maintenance setting.Necessary Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:The individual must possess the following skills and abilities or be able to demonstrate that he/she can perform the essential function of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
  • Ability to operate equipment used to maintain fields and parks and the knowledge to troubleshoot general maintenance issues.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks at one time, and devise solutions to immediate problems without much time for consideration.
  • Must possess a general understanding of field maintenance and how they are maintained.
  • Valid PA driver's license and the ability to travel.
  • Skills in operating a personal computer with a general understanding of word processing and spreadsheet preparation.
  • Understanding of the English language.
  • Must obtain Act 34 Clearances, CPR, and First Aid Clearances within six weeks of employment.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
