Salary: $19.18 - $23.16 Hourly Location : Mesquite, TX Job Type: Full-time Job Number: 1302626 Department: Parks and Recreation Opening Date: 09/26/2024 Closing Date: 10/31/2024 4:00 PM Central GENERAL SUMMARYSalary: $19.18/hr. min - $23.16/hr. mid (Depending on experience) Responsible for the year-round maintenance and mechanical operation of all swimming pools and aquatic facilities including but not limited to care, maintenance and repair of the pump rooms, equipment, features, and water quality. Make minor and routine mechanical repairs to a variety of park equipment or facilities including but not limited to: playground equipment, athletic complexes and scoreboards, picnic facilities and irrigation systems, recreation centers multi-use courts; and various other duties as assigned. SUPERVISION General supervision is provided by District Park Supervisor. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Adheres to assigned work schedule as outlined in city and department attendance policies and procedures.
  • Maintain swimming pool facilities including but not limited to: pumps, filters, mechanical components, and amenities. This may include repairs and servicing of play features, slides, pool lights, aquatic grates, main drains, plaster, tile, concrete, ADA equipment, etc.
  • Tests and adjusts water chemistry to meet standards for oxidation and sanitation; servicing of chemical dosing pumps/ injection system and auto fill systems.
  • Cleans and backwash filters; maintains and interprets operational and re-circulation efficiency of various filters. Checks and interprets gauges, flow meters and monitoring equipment for operational efficiency.
  • Performs cleaning duties for pool facilities including: vacuuming pools and facilities, cleaning of strainer baskets and skimmers, chemical treatments of pools, etc.; inspects and assures appearance of the general pool area.
  • Performs routine mechanical operation checks at all aquatic facilities and completes daily chemical usage, water quality and maintenance reports.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule. Including, evening, weekends and on call.
  • Participate in inspecting, diagnosing, and repairing mechanical difficulties on park equipment including irrigation systems, playground equipment, athletic lighting and scoreboards, picnic facilities, drinking fountains, recreation center multi-use courts and other park equipment as required.
  • Maintain the park irrigation systems; set irrigation clocks and controls; perform minor repairs including replacing broken heads and repairing minor breaks in the water lines; assist with major irrigation repairs as necessary.
  • Replace components such as lighting systems on athletic fields or scoreboards.
  • Participate in routine welding, fabricating, and assembly of parts and equipment for a variety of park equipment.
  • Remain on-call to respond to emergency situations at aquatic facilities.
  • Drive to and from destinations as assigned by Supervisor.
  • MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTSEDUCATION High school diploma or GED equivalent. EXPERIENCE One year of pool maintenance experience including plumbing, electrical and water treatment preferred. Two years' experience in one or more of the building maintenance trades, with experience in park-related maintenance and repair preferred. LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES Must have a valid Class C Driver's License prior to employment (must obtain Texas Class C driver's license within 30 days of hire per state law). Able to obtain a CPO (Certified Pool Operator) Certificate within six months of hire. WORK SCHEDULE
    • During the months of October-April
    Monday - Friday; 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Overtime as needed.
    • During the months of May-September
    Thursday-Sunday; 7:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m., with Monday-Wednesday scheduled as off days. Overtime as needed. Basic Group Life Insurance protection is provided to eligible full-time employees in the amount of two times the annual salary as recorded at the beginning of each year. The following voluntary benefits are available to full-time employees: Supplemental Life, AD&D Insurance, Cancer Insurance and Long-Term Disability Texas Municipal Retirement System (TMRS): All employees appointed to positions designated to work 1,000 hours or more per year must participate in the TMRS. TMRS is a qualified tax-deferred retirement plan under Section 401 of the IRS. Seven (7) percent of gross earnings are deducted each payroll as a pre-tax deduction and deposited into the member account. When an employee becomes vested and retires, the City provides 2-to-1 matching contributions. Other benefits include Social Security, Tax Saver Program (Section 125 Flexible Spending Account), Deferred Compensation Plans, Direct Deposit, Paid Holidays, Paid Vacation, Sick Leave and Personal Leave.
