Job duties may include maintenance and traffic control, particularly during special events, as well as, interactions with the general public. Additionally, this position works closely with the Police Department and may be asked to assist with other related tasks within the department. Must be willing to work evening shifts. Essential Duties and Responsibilities and Supervision Required
Patrols parks and facilities daily in an effort to encourage good community relations and to discourage inappropriate behavior.Daily check-ins with recreation centers, senior center, and coliseum.Daily check-ins with aquatic facilities during the summer months.Remains present at basketball games throughout the season to guarantee the safety and security of patrons.Attends ball games and tournaments and helps as needed with parking, crowd management, night deposits, etc.Makes daily deposits for the campgrounds.Inspects public restrooms and buildings to determine if general cleaning and/or maintenance is needed.Make sure all vehicles are gone from the parks at closing time.Responsible for closing and locking gates at closing time at designated parks.Maintains equipment, including barricades, cones, and safety gear.Create reports on park incidents, such as vandalism, park damage, and non-working lights, including other power sources; and, report unusual situations to the appropriate authorities.Establishes rapport and relationships with park visitors and event organizers.Supervises and assigns parking for large fishing tournaments.Conducts traffic and crowd control at special events with the parks.Connects with law enforcement on any issues that require their presence.Must be responsive to the needs of the public and provide services in a diplomatic and polite manner.Patrols parking lots at major events and competitions to guarantee a safe and secure environment.Issues parking citations as needed.Responsible for communicating openly and honestly with coworkers, supervisors, department managers, and the general public on a regular basis.Must be very observant.Must be able to function effectively under adverse situations and make responsible decisions.Must uphold integrity and high moral standards toward department and coworkers.Responsible for scheduling and recording of daily time cards, overtime, and leave time.Supervises and oversees the training of Park Patrol employees on proper procedures.Must complete all job duties assigned by the Park Superintendent or Director of Parks and Recreation.Performs other duties as needed and assigned.Minimum Qualifications, Experience, Training, & License
High School Diploma or GED Certificate, with additional advanced education/training in the related field preferred. Must have a minimum of 1 year of working experience in Park Patrol.Must have 18 months to 3 years working experience dealing with the public.Must have a minimum of 3 years of supervisory skills.Must have CPR Certification or obtain within 6 months of employment.Must be at least 21 years of age.Must have a valid driver's license. Must be able to work a flexible schedule including working past his/her assigned shift when needed.Must have knowledge of park ordinances, laws, and regulations, and be able to apply appropriately as needed.Must be able to manage and control traffic and crowds.Must be trained in basic first aid and CPR.Must be trained in the use of pepper spray.Must have the ability to respond professionally and use diplomacy and tact in stressful situations.Supervision:Employee works independently overseeing the Park Patrol staff and division. General supervision by the Parks Superintendent or Parks & Recreation Director.Physical Demands (with or without accommodations):
