This position is located at Chemin-a-Haut State Park in Bastrop, LA.
The minimum rate of pay is $17.36/hour for this position, depending on experience.
If offered the position, candidate must be able to drive to Baton Rouge to submit a background check.

No specialized experience or training is required.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Must have attained eighteenth birthday at time of application.
2. Willingness and ability to carry firearms.
3. Possession of a valid Louisiana driver's license at time of appointment.
4. No physical disablements which would prevent the functioning as a law enforcement officer.

To enforce all state laws, rules and regulations on a facility operated by the Office of State Parks and provide assistance to visitors.
Level of Work:
Entry.
Supervision Received:
Close from a Park Manager or other official or higher level.
Supervision Exercised:
None, although on small sites the incumbent may oversee the maintenance crew as needed.
Location of Work:
Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism, Office of State Parks. May be used by other organizations with approval from the Department of State Civil Service. (such as the Sabine River Authority).
Job Distinctions:
Differs from Park Ranger 2 by the lack of journeyman level responsibility and authority.
Differs from other law enforcement jobs by the confinement of work area to facilities operated by the Office of State Parks.The purpose of this position is to enforce all applicable laws on a state park and to educate the public on their role in the protection of natural resources, cultural, and historic resources.
60% Law Enforcement
* Protects park visitors by enforcing federal, state, and local laws and park rules and regulations.
* Performs emergency duties to protect human life, government property, and natural features of the site.
* Investigates incidents and/or complaints such as, but not limited to, vehicular, vandalism, accidents, trespassing, and search/rescue that occur within the park boundaries.
* Testifies in court as required.
* Work with federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies and district attorneys in the arrest and prosecution of individuals,
* Provides security by patrolling and inspecting the site by vehicle, foot patrol, bicycle, and boat.
* Teaches visitors to respect the delicate, natural balance of our state parks.
* Regulates the number of site visitors.
20% Customer Service
* Assists overnight guests during their stay by performing customer service duties.
* Provides tourism information and local directions to the park visitors, and disseminates other information as requested.
* Performs maintenance, custodial, inspections, and/or fee collection tasks as needed.
10% Administrative Support
* Prepares and maintains various records and reports associated with park operations.
* Prepares and maintains incident reports, recordings, etc., associated with law enforcement duties.
5% Training
* Participates and successfully completes all required training by the Office of State Parks. The training includes POST Council Ce1tification annually, annual certification in First-Aid/CPR, and other certifications as designated by the Office of State Parks.
* Provides training and assistance in the development and training of Ranger 1's as they work to meet the qualifications of the Ranger 2 position.
5% Park Events
* Works special details/events within the Office of State Parks in conjunction with federal, state, and local agencies that include inaugural events, search and rescue activities, parking details, specialized enforcement tasks, disaster assistance, and working special events at parks such as re-enactments, grand openings, day in the park events, school day events, etc.
* Confers with park staff to determine subject and schedules for park programs.
Perform additional duties as assigned and performs customer service to a high degree of excellence.
