LOCATION AND POSITION INFORMATION:

+ This position is located atGrand Isle State Park in Grand Isle, LA.

+ This position will be filled as a part-time Classified WAE, limited to 1,245 working hours in a 12 month period. **Starting Hourly Pay varies, depending on experience.**

Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

One year of experience in law enforcement, as a park ranger, or as a park manager plus possession of POST certification.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

1. Must have attained eighteenth birthday at time of application.

2. Willingness and ability to carry firearms.

3. Possession of a valid Louisiana driver's license at time of appointment.

4. No physical disablements which would prevent the functioning as a law enforcement officer.

An applicant who has been convicted of a felony or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by State and Federal laws is granted.

Job Concepts

Function of Work:

To enforce all state laws, rules and regulations on a facility operated by the Office of State Parks and provide assistance to visitors.

Level of Work:

Experienced.

Supervision Received:

General from the facility manager or other official of higher level.

Supervision Exercised:

None, although on smaller sites the incumbent may, in the absence of the manager, act as a facility manager.

Location of Work:

Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism, Office of State Parks. May be used by other organizations with approval from the Department of State Civil Service (such as the Sabine River Authority).

Job Distinctions:

Differs from Park Ranger 1 by the performance of journeyman level enforcement work.

Differs from Park Ranger Specialist by lack of responsibility for regional level law enforcement coordination and training.

Examples of Work

Enforces federal, state and local laws and park rules and regulations; investigates incidents such as vandalism, accidents, and complaints which occur within the park; testifies in court and cooperates with local law enforcement agencies and district attorneys in the arrest and prosecution of individuals.

Performs, as necessary, maintenance, custodial, or cashier tasks characteristic of park attendants.

Earns POST Council certification as a peace officer, requalifies for Post Council Certification annually in the use of firearms and recertifies in First-Aid and CPR annually.
