John D. MacArthur Beach State Park is looking for a self-motivated park service professional to fill a Park Ranger position, providing visitor services, maintenance, protection, administration, and resource management. The applicant must possess good visitor service and administrative skills, be able to work independently and have the ability to perform a variety of skilled trade functions using assorted equipment and tools. The applicant must be able to work rotating shifts including evenings, weekends and holidays.

A unique mixture of coastal and tropical hammock and mangrove forest, this barrier island provides a haven for several rare or endangered native tropical and coastal plant species. The park is home to one of the highest densities of sea turtle nesting in the state. A nature center shows visitors why the park is a biological treasure. Visitors can swim, picnic, and surf at the beach; snorkeling is also a popular activity. Birdwatchers may see herons, brown pelicans, terns, sandpipers, and gulls. Anglers can fish in the lagoon by wading or kayaking. Additionally, visitors can fish from non-swimming areas of the beach.

Base salary $2,813.33 plus $95.33 Competitive Area Differential month/$33,760 annual
Your Specific Responsibilities:
Compliance with the processing requirements of Chapter 215.422, F.S. is mandatory. Persistent failure to comply with this section by any agency of the state shall constitute good cause for discharge of employees duly found responsible, or predominantly responsible, for failure to comply. In carrying out the duties of this position, the incumbent is expected at all times to be aware of and abide by the Department's Standards of Conduct, as well as any and all departmental and/or work unit rules, directives, policies, procedures, and/or general orders applicable to performing the duties of this position.
MAINTENANCE - Performs and/or oversees the repairs, maintenance and construction of park buildings; to include carpentry, brick, cement, block, plumbing, wiring, roofing, trim, framing, foundations, exterior and interior finish, painting, floors, doors and windows. Performs and/or oversees the maintenance and repairs to electric motors, generators, and compressors. Installs and/or oversees the maintenance and repairs to valves, sinks, wash bowls, sewers and other sanitary fixtures. Performs and/or oversees the maintenance and repairs to air conditioning and heating equipment. Operates all park maintenance equipment, including saws, drills, presses, torches, welders, grinders and all tools. Performs related work as required. Maintains park boats, outboards and trailers. Performs maintenance and repairs or oversees the repair of all aquatic pumps for sea turtles and other aquatic life.
ADMINISTRATION - Prepares forms and reports on a wide range of subjects including, following purchasing guidelines, compose and submit project progress reports, accidents, crisis and miscellaneous incident reports; vehicle, boat and equipment operations, property records, monthly and quarterly safety inspections, and timesheets. Answers telephone, operate radio equipment and maintain logs. Answers correspondence and maintains park files. Ability to follow DEP Directive 300 when purchasing materials and supplies.
RESOURCE MANAGEMENT - Participates in planning and conducting natural resource management activities by implementing resource management techniques required to manage and restore natural communities and marine ecosystems. Participates in the Parks exotic plant control program; reports results as required.
PROTECTION - Ensures park rules are enforced pertaining to all natural, historical and archaeological facilities and resources and use thereof for the enjoyment of t he visitor.
Performs related work duties as required.
May volunteer to snorkel.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

+ participate in voluntary snorkeling activities that support the operational needs of the park
+ perform physical labor in hot and humid South Florida climate with minimal supervision
+ successfully complete and maintain current certifications/trainings in: First Aid, CPR and Blood Borne Pathogen Training
+ successfully complete ranger academy
+ successfully complete background and fingerprint check
