Work involves providing information to the public, educating visitors on the rules and regulations of facilities, and maintaining secure and hazard free locations.Work is performed under close supervision with minimal latitude in the use of initiative and independent judgment. Provides prompt and courteous customer service to the public; provides information and assistance to visitors regarding available amenities, safety rules, regulations, laws, ordinances, and municipal codes. Maintains high visibility and consistent interaction with park visitors and staff by foot or vehicle patrol. Patrols assigned park areas to identify unsafe conditions and human or property hazards; reports instances of potential risk and takes appropriate corrective action; reports unusual or suspicious circumstances to department management, city leaders, and/or emergency responders and law enforcement agencies. Performs first aid per established protocols and regulations; assists first responders as appropriate; documents incidents and accidents and provides information to assist law enforcement as required. Verifies reservations for assigned fields and park shelters; interprets reservations for specific areas of parks; resolves conflicts regarding the use of park facilities; works closely with youth and adult sports leagues to coordinate field reservations and use.Posts Park notifications and rules and may collect field data and transactional surveys as assigned.Opens and closes parks as scheduled/requested and assists with setup and break down of special events; may direct and control crowds during public events and programs.Adheres to all city and public health and safety guidelines and protocols; performs job functions in a safe manner and reports all safety hazards per established policies and procedures.Maintains quality communication and interaction with all city personnel, representatives from external organizations, and the public to maintain good will toward the city and to project a positive city image.Demonstrates behaviors that support the City's Vision and Values.Maintains on-call work availability as assigned, to prepare for, respond to, or recover from a hurricane, tropical weather event, or other emergency to meet the city's obligation to remain operational before, during, and after the event; duties assigned may or may not be typical of the job and are contingent upon the needs of the city and the residents because of the event.Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with those interacted with during work regardless of race, color, religious creed, national origin, ancestry, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, genetic information, disability, political affiliation, military service, or diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.Supervisory ResponsibilitiesThis position has no supervisory responsibilities.Pay and Bargaining StatusThis is a non-exempt position pursuant to the Fair Labor Standards Act and is within the blue collar bargaining unit covered by the City of Tamarac and Federation of Public Employees (FPE) collective bargaining agreement. This position is paid on an hourly basis, issued bi-weekly, and subject to overtime pay in accordance with the terms of the current City of Tamarac and FPE collective bargaining agreement.Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED required; supplemented by two (2) years of customer service and/or public facing work experience, including monitoring and enforcing of rules and regulations; or an equivalent combination of education, certification, training and/or experience.Required Certifications and LicensesMust possess and maintain a valid State of Florida driver license and the ability to drive a city owned vehicle per established policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.National Incident Management System (NIMS) training will be required (and sponsored) according to job duties and responsibilities. Must possess or obtain within four (4) months of hire, First Aid / CPR Certification, and within one (1) year of hire, Crowd Manager Certification.NOTE: Job description, minimum qualifications, and the standards required to perform the essential functions are detailed in the official job description.
