The City of Johnson City, Tennessee is accepting online applications for a Park Services Technician I. The employee performs responsible skilled and semiskilled or unskilled manual work operating trucks, mowing equipment and other equipment utilized in park maintenance; does related work as required. The work of this class involves responsibility for the safe and efficient operation of trucks and similar automotive equipment to transport men or materials, and to maintain and construct various public facilities. When the nature of work does not require constant operation of assigned equipment employees in this class participate in manual labor incidental to the job such as loading and unloading of equipment, and in performing unskilled or semiskilled maintenance in the park service field and construction tasks. Assignments may be given in detail for each job, or work may follow well-established routines. Work is reviewed by a superior for quality, quantity, safety of operation and care of equipment. Employees in this class may be assigned to somewhat more difficult and responsible tasks and may operate various pieces of light automotive and park service equipment. Position is responsible for the maintenance of indoor and outdoor facilities, open green space, outdoor areas, and athletic fields and mowing and landscaping.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Some knowledge of the principles and practices of operating and regulations governing equipment operation; types and uses of common hand tools, some working knowledge of some working knowledge of the occupational hazards involved and the safety precautions necessary for the proper operation of varied and specialized construction and maintenance equipment; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and to make required reports; skill and care in the operation of several types of trucks, physical strength and agility sufficient to do strenuous manual work under varying weather conditions, general mechanical ability and ability to perform unskilled or semiskilled tasks in construction and maintenance activities; physical strength and agility sufficient to do strenuous manual labor for extended periods, under varying weather conditions. Acceptable Experience and Training: Completion of a standard grade school course, preferably completion of high school and some experience performing general manual work; in the operation and routine servicing of trucks or related park service equipment; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license issued by the State of Tennessee. Pre-employment physical, drug screening and background check required.
