WHAT YOU'LL BE DOINGWe're seeking enthusiastic and experienced individuals ready for a summer adventure. As the Park Slope Camp Director, you'll be the heart of our camp, overseeing all aspects of camp management and creating a safe, memorable experience for the staff and campers. Your summer duties will include: Dedicate time during the preseason to coordinate camp logistics with key departments (e.g. Marketing & Development, Operations, People & Culture, Program Management).Attend pre-camp orientations hosted by the Department of Health and Kids in the Game staff, and help to structure and coordinate training for your camp staff before and during camp.Participate in weekly Camp Director meetings and trainings from April-June to be fully trained in your camp administration and supervision responsibilities.Overseeing the day-to-day operations of the camp, including hiring, training, scheduling, and supervising staff members.Assign staff to camp groups, assess their ability to work with different age groups, offer regular feedback to continuously improve staff performance, and administer staff evaluations twice per summer.Keep staff personnel files up-to-date and compliant with Department of Health regulations, and ensure that staff certifications are valid and on-site at all times.Ensure that all necessary forms are in place before a child enters any program, including up-to-date physicals, immunization records, registration forms, waivers, etc.Monitor daily camp enrollment and maintain accurate attendance records for staff and campers.Organize and support the implementation of the Kids in the Game summer camp schedule & programming, including weekly themes, team time & group games, structured arts, sports, movement, and STEM activities, swim schedule, field trips, and special events.Notify parents/guardians of children about session dates, camp trips, theme days and schedule changes well in advance, and remain accessible to parents throughout the summer.Ensure that all program equipment and supplies are ordered, available and properly maintained during the summer.Maintain and enforce all camp safety rules and policies; recognize, prevent and correct safety hazards; monitor the health and safety of all campers and staff.Act as a key player in problem solving staff/camper issues and parental concerns; be able to identify camper behavior issues and respond with corrective steps.Communicate regularly with the Camps Supervisor and other key leaders from internal departments to ensure compliance with camp operations, supervision, and administration procedures. Pre-Summer & Summer Work Schedule: Pre Summer Camp Expectations: Part time in-person & remote work from January to June dedicated to training, staff interviews, family outreach, info sessions & orientations 5-8 hours / week (January to February) Complete Camp Director Orientation and OnboardingAssist with camp interviews for leadership positionsLead group interviews and candidate mini meets for camp (counselors and specialists)Attend Camp Director meetings and check-ins with our teamLead virtual open houses and contact prospective families to effectively market the camp and boost enrollmentBegin meeting with your Camp Leadership teams monthly or bi-weekly 8-10 hours / week (March to April) Continue to support interviews for your camp staffAttend Camp Director meetings and check-ins with our teamContinue to meet with your camp leadership team monthly or bi-weeklySupport in staff retention efforts and touch points with your support staffSupport with camp marketing Conduct Virtual or In-Person Parent Open HousesAttend regional camp fairs or camp marketing events Attend weekly Camp Director Trainings; complete virtual core training; build content for on-site camp training 10-15 hours / week (May to June) In these months, we require dedicated in-office time either during the day or after school/evening hoursLead group interviews and candidate mini meets for camp (counselors and specialists)Attend Camp Director meetings and check-ins with our teamContinue Camp Leadership meetings and check-ins; wrap up summer prepSupport in staff retention efforts and touch points with your support staffAttend Camp Trainings and support in creating training materials Leadership/All Staff/Camp Site Specific TrainingsCPR/First Aid/AED Trainings Conduct Virtual or In-Person Parent OrientationsAssist camp leadership with building weekly camp schedules, coordinating field trips, and planning special events Summer Camp Expectations: Full time in-person camp administration for a camp with 80-115+ campers and 20-30+ staff membersJune 14 August 15, 2025 Includes pre-camp training & 7 weeks of camp Monday Friday (7:00a 5:30p) Location Information: Park Slope - 588 6th St, Brooklyn, NY 11215 Compensation Range:This is a part-time, seasonal position based in New York City. Camp Directors must be available to work part time from January - June (range of 8-15+ hours per week) to complete pre-summer work expectations. Camp Directors must be available to work full time from late June to the end of August to oversee camp operations.Pre Summer Compensation: Monthly stipends ranging from $150-$600 per month Starting in January at $150 Monthly pre-summer stipends increase each month based on workload. Camp Directors only receive the full pre-summer stipend each month if they complete required milestone expectations Rates will be prorated depending on progress Total of $1,500 - $2,000 pre-summer compensation depending on start date and the # of hours committed per week Summer Compensation: Biweekly salary payments from July - August 2025 Park Slope Camp location will run for 7 weeks from June 30th through August 15th, 2025 Total salary range based on 7 weeks of summer camp: $1,350 to $1,550 per week 7 week camp salary range (without the training stipend) $9,450 to $10,850 Rates are based on camp enrollment (number of campers per week) and prior years of experience in similar roles and prior Camp Director experience ** Additional end of Camp Bonuses will be distributed to camp teams based on camper enrollment and satisfaction ratings from registered families.Key Qualifications:Our ideal candidate would meet many of the following qualifications: Must have completed a physical exam and TB test within one year of the camp dates, pass NYS and national background checks, and be CPR, First Aid, and AED certified.Possess at least 5 years of overall camp experience and 2+ years of experience managing a day camp or sleepaway camp (Camp Director, Assistant Camp Director) with at least 60 campers.Possess your NYC Camp Director Certification (or be willing to attend the Orientation before Summer Camp 2024 begins).Prior experience as a supervisor for youth development after school and summer programs or as an educator in a public/private setting (5+ years) may also meet the requirement for consideration.Prior experience developing camp staff training materials, administering on-site training, and conducting staff evaluations.Commit to working part time/remote during the school year to support camp planning efforts and commit to working eight weeks during the summer.Attend and help lead mandatory Core Trainings and all-staff team buildings, before and during the camp season.Be able to establish and maintain strong working relationships with fellow employees, participants, parents, and caregivers.Communicate in a timely and professional fashion with parents, caregivers, kids and staff across organization-wide communication channels (Slack, Email, Text, Google Calendar, etc.) and be able to interpret and understand both written and oral instructions.Be able to learn and effectively use multiple platforms for accessing and sharing information, including G Suite (doc, sheets, slides), camp registration software, Asana project management software, and other internal information management systems.
