Brazoria County Parks Department is growing and thriving in Southeast Texas, and features 10 recreational park sites, one historic site, more than 20 boat ramp facilities and 14 miles of public beach along the Gulf of Mexico. The region also boasts diverse wildlife and landscapes such as Columbia Bottomland forests, rivers, bays and estuaries, and a dedicated, professional team of employees.

Hanson Riverside County Park: Currently, Hanson Park consists of 80 acres of unique, Columbia Bottomlands forest green space, with the park boundary being the scenic San BernardRiver. The park features some 3 miles of multi-use hike/bike trails, a playground, pavilions available for rent, a boat ramp and courtesy dock, and other amenities. In addition to the park's current offerings, Hanson Park has been expanded via a partnership with USFWS to include an additional 450 acres of park land, adding even more bottomland hardwood forests and river frontage as part of the Hanson- Beal Unit. This new park unit also includes backcountry hike and bike trails, and five primitive tent camping sites, with more multi-use trails and camp sites planned for future development.

Park Location: Hanson Riverside Park is located just west of the city of West Columbia, TX, along State Highway 35 in Brazoria County, and is approximately 20 minutes west of the city of Angleton, which is the Brazoria County seat.

Salary range:$58,226 - $63,625per year, depending on qualifications and experience; insurance, holidays and benefits package included for this full-time, 40-hours-plus per week, exempt supervisory position. Parks Dept. vehicle is provided, along with park housing on site.

Basic Job Description:The successful candidate for Hanson Riverside Park Manager-Superintendent will perform the following duties:

* This position will be a member of the Brazoria County Parks Dept. senior staff team, responsible for general oversight and all aspects of site management of a newly expanded public park for which significant development is planned in the foreseeable future, including all day-to-day operations, recreational use plans, campgrounds, maintenance of all park facilities such as an equipment and storage barn, miles of hike-and-bike backcountry multi-use trails, restrooms, playground equipment and small office area.

* Must have intermediate knowledge of /be able to operate and maintain all park equipment such as tractors, excavators, skid steer, backhoe, Georgia buggy, zero-turn mower, weedeater, chainsaw, and other equipment.

* Expected to lead the planning and execution phase from the ground up of all new park development, such as planning and construction of all trails, and resource management.

* oversee/manage all Hanson Park staff such as park rangers, admin and seasonal staff positions.

* This manager role will also be the primary liaison with USFWS and other agency partners to plan, develop and execute all partnership work plans, meetings and development, and coordinate any annual reports /park maintenance logs and/or master plans, public presentations, etc.

* This position is ultimately responsible for all customer relations at Hanson Park, communications to the public, coordinating campsite and pavilion reservations via computer, phone and in person, coordinating employee timesheets and other management paperwork.

* Must be knowledgeable in general park operations and management, protocols, safety procedures, maintenance needs and routines, mowing/weedeating and other grounds care, litter pickup, cleaning restrooms, and picnic pavilions, and care of a boat ramp.

* Will also help as needed on varied park projects related to basic park facility management, repairs, public outreach events and interacting with park visitors in a friendly and professional manner.

* Basic familiarity with small engine repair, lawn care, and facility maintenance are required, with additional consideration given to those with backcountry camping, trails, and other outdoor activities/ resource management experience.

* Knowledge and experience in public lands, forestry and/or wildlife and fisheries management practices and resource protection, as well as wildlife, fish and plant species, is strongly preferred.

* This position will also work in concert with Parks Dept maintenance crews and other HQ staff for major projects as needed.

* Occasional travel to Park HQ in Angleton, and other county park locations and park functions are required.

* Position requires basic computer knowledge, such as use of email and Web sites, and ability/willingness to learn campsite reservation software, customer check-in procedure, office fiscal management protocols, etc.

* Position may also help manage probationer and community service workers while they are on site in the park to assist with park maintenance, etc.

* Employee must be willing to work non-traditional schedule, such as weekends, holidays, special events and evenings if needed, and comply with all Brazoria County policies such as a uniform dress code, background check, drug test, etc.

* Other duties may also be assigned by Parks Dept. senior staff.

Supervisor: Hanson Riverside Park Manger/Superintendent position reports directly to Brazoria County Parks Director and Parks Deputy Director.

Qualifications

Qualifications: High school diploma or G.E.D. required; stronger consideration will be given to those with park manager/park supervisory experience, and / or those with at least 3 years of experience working with a parks, recreation, conservation, wildlife or fisheries agency, or public works department, and/or college coursework in parks and recreation, wildlife or fisheries management, forestry or related field. Five years of previous parks or recreation management, or related experience is preferred. College degree in related field is preferred.
