Job Description:
SALARY: $13.45 per hour (DOQ) HOURS/DAYS 8-hour shifts Monday through Friday. Will occasionally be required to work after hours to complete projects and meet deadlines. SUMMARY This position is responsible for the enforcing parking restrictions in the downtown area and enforces parking violations of City ordinance. Under supervision and in accordance with procedures, patrols designated areas for parking violations; services and operates traffic guide vehicle; and assists with general office type work as assigned by the Supervisor. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Report traffic accidents and hazards.
  • Utilize LPR computer system for parking enforcement.
  • Issue parking tickets to illegally parked vehicles.
  • Impound vehicles with excessive unpaid parking tickets.
  • Maintain records on activities.
  • Ensure assigned vehicle is clean and maintenance is done as required.
  • Answer questions from public.
  • Testify in court as required.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES • Ability to operate a standard transmission vehicle. • Ability to effectively and clearly communicate on a radio and in person • Ability to carry out instructions with little supervision. • Ability to read, write, and speak the English language at a high school graduate level. • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions. • Ability to work under stressful conditions. • Knowledge of city parking ordinances. • Ability to operate computers for word processing, accounting and other purposes. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Requires a High School Diploma or its equivalent plus 12 hours from an accredited college. Plus a minimum of one-year previous experience in dealing with the public. Six months previous experience with a law enforcement agency and previous experience with computer based electronic parking enforcement camera systems preferred. Valid Texas Driver's License Required. Prior to being accepted for this position, applicant must successfully complete and pass a criminal history check and background check. A City Marshal employee must have an excellent reputation in order to maintain the public's respect. The following factors would automatically disqualify an applicant: Any felony conviction; Class A or B misdemeanor conviction within the last 5 years; discharge from military service with other than Under Honorable Conditions; any illegal possession or use of controlled substances, other than marijuana after 18 years of age, prior to 18 years, the City Marshal or designee will review on individual basis; three traffic accidents in the past 3 years in which you were at fault; or three traffic citation for moving violations within the last year; driver license presently suspended.
