This position offers a unique opportunity to work independently while making a positive impact in our neighborhoods.In this role, you will patrol various parking areas, including time-limited zones, metered spaces, parking garages, and restricted areas. Your responsibilities include issuing parking violation tickets, ensuring compliance with all ordinances (including handicap regulations), reporting faulty meters, and applying immobilization devices as needed.You will also be a helpful resource for the public, responding to abandoned vehicle complaints and assisting citizens by providing directions, street locations, and explanations of parking regulations.Key Responsibilities
- Enforce parking regulations by issuing violation tickets in municipal lots, garages, city streets, and private areas for handicap violations.
- Utilize License Plate Reading (LPR) cameras and software to detect overtime parking violations and expired vehicle registrations.
- Respond to parking complaints and investigate abandoned vehicles through the Central Illinois Regional Dispatch Center (CIRDC).
- Provide public assistance by answering questions about parking regulations, street locations, and public facilities.
- Observe and report defective or missing parking meters; assist police officers with traffic control when necessary.
- Report suspicious activities or non-parking violations to supervisors for follow-up.
- Testify in court for parking violations and perform other related duties as assigned.
Needed Knowledge & Skills
- Basic knowledge of the city's geography and street numbering system.
- Ability to work independently under general supervision.
- Ability to handle stressful situations with tact, courtesy, and firmness.
- Proficiency with Parking Enforcement software and license plate reader equipment.
- Strong interpersonal skills to manage public interactions, including challenging situations.
- Physical strength and agility for outdoor work in adverse weather and installing/removing parking immobilization devices.
- Valid Illinois driver's license.
- Ability to lift and carry at least 40 pounds.
- Must obtain and maintain Law Enforcement Agencies Data System (LEADS) certification.
