The City of Lynchburg Parks and Recreation Department is seeking an enthusiastic, self-motivated, customer-oriented individual with good interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment to perform difficult work to support the operations of Parks and Recreation Department.

This position is full time with competitive benefits. Salary is negotiable depending on qualifications and experience with a starting pay of $17/hr.

Essential Duties

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.

* Provides excellent customer service: greeting participants, addressing customer concerns, answering multi line phone system and emails, and assisting with the day to day program operation.

* Provides assistance and administrative support to Department staff.

* Conducts monetary transactions along with printing reconciliation reports and making bank deposits.

* Picks-up and makes deliveries to City Hall, banks, and businesses.

* Prepares, verifies, and/or types variety of documents such as personnel forms, vendor payment forms, reports of collections, miscellaneous invoices, and financial reports.

* Issues Facility Use Permits for Parks & Recreation facilities, ensuring all requirements are met.

* Enrolls participants in programs and classes;

* Serves as backup to processing MasterCard and payroll;

* Responds to requests for more detailed services and assistance;

* Listens and gets clarification;

* Speaks in a way that is clear and precise about what is required and clearly passes information on;

* Treats others with respect;

* Exhibits common courtesy and basic communication skills to work within a team environment;

* Maintains confidentiality;

ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS

* Depending on work assignment, may be required to perform a variety of duties in support of operational requirements and direct citizen service delivery such as acting as a back-up to other staff and response to weather-related and other emergencies, such as snow removal;

* May be required to work outside of normal work hours, to report to work during inclement or unusual weather or other conditions or to respond in other abnormal situations;

* Other duties to provide direct or indirect service to the citizens may be assigned.

* When unusual situations occur and/or the City Manager declares a State of Emergency, all City employees may be required to accept special assignments and perform as needed to ensure appropriate service delivery.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This job has no supervisory duties. May perform temporary project oversight. Incumbent requires periodic direction.

Minimum Education and Experience Required

Qualifications

Education, Experience and Technical Skills

Graduation from high school. Completion of additional technical classes. Some (6 months - 2 years) general administrative support work experience.

Demonstrates solid computer skills, to include Microsoft Office, email applications, ability to learn and use data base software for management of recreation programs.

Additional Requirements

* Must successfully complete IS100 and IS700 National Incident Management (NIMS) training within 90 days of employment. May also be required to complete higher levels of NIMS training as determined appropriate for the position.

* Depending on work assignment, may be required to obtain Notary Public license.

* Depending on work assignment, may be required to have a valid driver's license issued by the Commonwealth if Virginia and acceptable driving record according to City criteria.

* Relevant background checks must be completed and approved.
