We are seeking a candidate with advanced horticultural and agricultural expertise to lead a team of landscape professionals within the St. Peters Parks Department. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in horticulture, urban forestry, and landscape management, along with exceptional leadership and organizational skills.
Position Summary: As the Horticulture Supervisor, you will oversee and coordinate the daily tasks of work crews responsible for tree care, mowing operations, landscape maintenance (including shrubs and flowers), irrigation work, holiday displays, and special projects in the parks. This role also administers key community initiatives such as the Tree City USA program and the Memorial Program, ensuring these programs are managed with attention to detail and in accordance with City standards.
NORMAL SHIFT: Mon-Sun (varies); 7:00am-3:30pm
Essential Functions:
* Supervise and manage staff, including orientation, training, scheduling, and performance evaluation.
* Provide recommendations for hiring, terminations, and staff development.
* Assist in budget preparation and ensure work activities and purchases align with budgetary guidelines.
* Develop and implement administrative policies, regulatory actions, and oversee capital purchases.
* Identify and coordinate necessary maintenance and repair tasks.
* Operate and perform minor repairs on irrigation systems, ensuring safety and proper functioning.
* Respond to customer/resident inquiries, concerns, and complaints promptly.
* Engage in administrative and supervisory duties while actively participating in the maintenance of city grounds.
* Design or oversee aesthetic landscape plans and draft community-friendly programs.
* Maintain work unit records and files, ensuring organization and accessibility.
* Participate in snow removal and seasonal preparation activities.
* Ensure compliance with City safety standards in all work tasks.
* Perform other related duties as assigned.
