This position performs a variety of entry level, semi-skilled, and skilled maintenance tasks essential to the upkeep of City parks, City grounds, and playing fields.This position must be available nights, weekends, and on-call. Essential FunctionsMay perform one or several of the essential functions below depending upon assignment.Performs day-to-day maintenance on parks grounds; prepares and maintains sports fields, tennis courts, pickle ball courts, and other parks facilities for use; removes garbage, weeds, and debris from parks, and Parks and Recreation facilities, pathways, and undeveloped areas maintained by Parks and Recreation Department.Operates equipment and utilizes hand tools; including but not limited to tractors, loaders, mowers, power hand tools, handheld power equipment, ice resurfacer, snow blower, ATVs, UTVs, shovels and rakes.Performs general maintenance and upkeep of equipment by performing preventive maintenance and repairing some small equipment.Maintains and installs irrigation systems; follows established irrigation schedules; adjusts sprinkler heads to properly cover watering area(s); repairs or replaces water lines, sprinkler heads and irrigation valves as needed.Mows and trims grass with handheld power equipment, large and small area mowers, and edgers; mows and trims vegetation in undeveloped areas with tractor mowers, and handheld power equipment.Plants grass, trees, shrubs, and flowers; grades soil and landscape materials to required specifications; follows best management practices; trims or removes tree and shrubs as needed; applies nutrients to grass, trees, shrubs, and flowers; mixes and applies pesticides; maintains records of pesticide applications.Assists as needed with events and holiday decorating at parks, and City facilities; Coordinates facility setup for activities and events, which includes but is not limited to, planning, organizing, setting up and taking down chairs, tables and other supplies at City facilities; Meets with event organizers and vendors prior to and during events. Prepares grounds and facilities for special event use, which may include installing and removing temporary structures and traffic control devices. Monitor grounds during special events, which includes, emptying garbage cans, cleaning up garbage and debris at event, and interacting with event attendees to ensure customer service goals are being met. Removes garbage and debris after event.Cleans restrooms, shelters, and park facilities; follows established schedules for cleaning and maintaining park facilities; vacuums, sweeps, and mops floors; empties and cleans waste receptacles; cleans and disinfects restroom, shelter, and facility surfaces, sinks and bowls; washes windows; replaces burnt out bulbs; monitors building temperature to ensure comfortable conditions.Maintains and repairs park amenities; installs, repairs, and maintains playground equipment and surfacing; installs and repairs fencing; cleans and installs signs; paints and repairs benches and picnic tables; paints restrooms, shelters, retaining walls, etc. Maintains walking surfaces and parking areas; shovels and plows snow; applies ice melt to surfaces to ensure safe conditions. Minimum Qualifications 1. Education and Experience: A. Sufficient education or training to demonstrate an aptitude to perform above and related duties; AND B. One (1) year experience performing the above or directly related duties; OR C. An equivalent combination of education and experience.2. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Working knowledge of parks, grounds, and facilities maintenance and operations; working knowledge of electronic computer controlled irrigation systems installation and maintenance; working knowledge of pesticide application equipment and safety precautions; some knowledge of interpersonal communication skills; some knowledge of City geography; some knowledge of safety precautions common to physical labor associated with above duties.Some skill in the use of basic hand tools, light and heavy equipment.Ability to follow routine verbal or written work instructions and assignments; ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing; ability to perform strenuous physical labor; ability to work outdoors under extreme weather conditions; ability to develop effective working relationships with fellow employees and Supervisors and the public.3. Special Qualifications:Must possess a valid Idaho driver's license.Final candidate will be subject to a thorough background check. Work Environment Tasks require variety of physical activities, generally involving muscular strain, such as walking, standing, stooping, sitting, reaching, lifting, etc. Talking, hearing and seeing essential to the performance of the job. Daily exposure to weather extremes and seasonal conditions. Common eye, hand, finger dexterity exists. Mental application utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, discriminating thinking.
