JOB SUMMARY
This position is responsible for performing a variety of maintenance tasks both indoors and outdoors with a varying degree of expertise in order to properly maintain clean, safe and functional parks and facilities as part of the parks and recreation system for the citizens of Smyrna.
MAJOR DUTIES
* Ensure parks and facilities are free of debris and cleaned daily.
* Operate various types of on road vehicles, i.e., truck, trailer, and dump truck.
* Operate various types of park maintenance equipment, i.e., trimmer, power washer, and mower.
* Learn and implement best practices of Sports Field Management and Park Maintenance.
* Assist in minor repairs that may include irrigation, plumbing, light carpentry.
* Provide logistical support for programs, activities, and events produced by the city.
* Work independently to complete an array of daily assignments.
* Complete daily work log.
* Performs related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION
* General knowledge of janitorial-related practices.
* Ability to learn best practices in operating hand and power tools and equipment.
* Ability to learn to operate vehicles with trailers or equipment.
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS
The Parks Maintenance Supervisor assigns work in terms of general instructions. The Maintenance Tech III spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the results.
GUIDELINES
Guidelines include city policies and procedures and Occupational Safety and Health Administration standards. These guidelines are generally clear and specific but may require interpretation in application.

* The work consists of varied maintenance duties.
* The purpose of this position is to perform a variety of maintenance tasks both indoors and outdoors with a varying degree of expertise to properly maintain clean, safe, and functional parks and facilities as part of the parks and recreation system for the citizens of Smyrna. This work is completed in a public setting where you will be expected to be able to appropriately engage the public in a manner that reflects positively on the City.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT
* The work is typically performed while standing, walking, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools requiring a high degree of dexterity, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes the sense of smell.
* The work is typically performed outside and in noisy places exposed to dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, contagious or infectious diseases, irritating chemicals. Work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.
SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY
None.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
* High school diploma or equivalent required.
* Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
* Must successfully pass criminal background and motor vehicle checks.
* Must successfully pass post-offer drug screening and physical.
