Unless expressly defined in this job description, all terms have the same meaning as defined in the Employee Handbook.Job Summary:Under the direction of the Parks Supervisor, the Technician - Maintenance is responsible for maintaining playgrounds, fences, bike trails, landscape lighting, athletic fields, trash removal, and other hardscape features maintained by the District.Essential Functions:The following duties are an overview of the primary duties and responsibilities of the Parks Maintenance Technician and should not be considered an all-inclusive list.A. Inspect and repair all playground equipment to ensure that all playgrounds are in a good state of repair and useable by the public; inspect and repair fences maintained by the District; inspect and repair greenbelt walkway lights, monument sign lights, and facility building, and parking lot lights; inspect, repair, and replace signs; complete basic wiring as it would apply to greenbelt walkway and monument sign lighting.B. Maintain existing drainage systems and identify areas with poor drainage and make necessary repairs to alleviate the problems.C. Perform maintenance on all baseball and soccer fields.D. Maintain asphalt, concrete, and natural surface trails.E. Remove trash from parks, greenbelts and facility grounds; empty trash containers and fill dog waste bag dispensers.F. Know how to safely operate equipment and power tools including, but not limited to, front-end loader, backhoe, skid steer, trencher, sod cutter, snowplow, dump truck, stump grinder, chipper, bucket truck, chain saw, and hand tools.G. Assist in landscape maintenance projects such as tree care, raking, snow removal, turf fertilization, etc.H. Lead, monitor, and train assigned staff in daily operations, the proper and safe handling of tools, and the operation of equipment used in arboreal maintenance.I. Direct inquiries from the public to appropriate supervisory staff; establish and maintain positive working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, and subordinates; plan and participate in resident education classes, as assigned.J. Consistently promote a positive, professional image of the District and provide excellent customer service at all times.Authority Exercised:This position may lead other Park Technicians and up to three seasonal staff.RequirementsRequired Experience:High School Diploma, or equivalent.Experience in park maintenance with increasing levels of responsibility, or any combination of education and/or experience that has provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for excellent job performance.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Ability to work a 40 hour per week schedule that could include some evenings, early mornings and weekends as conditions or programming schedules might dictate. Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language at a level adequate to perform the job.Must have the ability to be flexible and be able to adapt to changing daily schedules based on timelines and equipment/vehicle repair needs.Working in a variety of locations and sometimes in challenging weather conditions.Special Requirements:Possess and maintain a valid Colorado Driver's License and be insurable by the District's insurance carrier by maintaining an acceptable driving record.Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.Ability to acquire and maintain a Certified Playground Safety Inspector certification within one year of hire.Work and Physical Requirements:This position requires work in a variety of locations and conditions, including but not limited to the Parks Department Maintenance Facility, other Recreational facilities, and outside areas within the District's park system. Working Environment Moderate physical activity will be required frequently.Work will be required outdoors in all weather conditions.Work may be required under hazardous and adverse conditions, including, but not limited to, slippery and uneven surfaces and proximity to moving mechanical equipment.Use of sensory activities, such as talking, seeing, hearing, smelling, feeling (identifying objects by touch), depth perception and color vision will be required frequently.Physical Requirements Have ability to lift, move and carry objects in excess of fifty (50) pounds frequently.Have ability to stand, walk, sit, kneel, stoop, bend, lift, squat, push, pull, crawl, jump, slide, climb, pinch, grip, reach overhead, reach away from body, and perform repetitive motions.Be able to work evenings, holidays, and weekends as needed.Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.
