The ideal candidate should have a background in commercial turf and grounds, sports turf or closely related field to help improve the appearance, safety and maintenance of city parks and athletic field complexes.Examples of DutiesWorks closely with other full time and seasonal staff to prepare athletic fields for leagues and tournaments including - groom infields, install bases, lay out and paint/chalk fields, pick up trash, clean dugouts, restrooms and parking areas; inspect and repair safety issues on and off the fields. Maintains commercial turf and grounds including - installing, repairing and scheduling irrigation systems; assist with fertilizer and pesticide applications; aerating and overseeding turf; mowing turf; light forestry work; leaf removal. Uses heavy and light equipment to perform functions including but not limited to mowers, weedeaters, blowers, utility tractors, infield groomers, skid loaders, chain saws, utility vehicles, trucks and trailers. Performs work in a safe manner, securing work site and following work zone safety rules, wearing safety equipment including glasses, boots, gloves and hearing protection. Performs snow and ice removal on trails, parking lots, and sidewalks. Maintains accurate, reliable records of daily work, equipment used, worksites, and projects. Performs other related duties as assigned.Typical Qualifications Physical: Ability to work in extreme weather conditions; lift carry, push and pull up to 100 pounds; stand for extended periods; and operate various park type equipment and vehicles. Mental: Ability to follow directions; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; and organize equipment, supplies and vehicles necessary for daily work tasks. Must be a positive Parks and Recreation representative while working closely with coaches, players, parents, tournament directors, co-workers and the general public. Requires a high school diploma or equivalent and one year experience directly involved with athletic field maintenance, commercial turf and grounds maintenance, park grounds maintenance, or closely related field. Knowledge and ability to operate and maintain various park, construction and landscape equipment and vehicles. Supplemental InformationMust have the ability to obtain and maintain Missouri Class A CDL with air brake and tank endorsement. Preferred Missouri Certified Pesticide Applicator License. Typical hours worked are Monday through Friday 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. After hours and weekend work are required.Specific job title and salary depend upon qualifications. The minimum starting hourly salary for a Parks Maintenance Worker Trainee is $16.55 and the maximum hourly salary for a Parks Maintenance Worker Senior is $27.36.
