Job Description:
Performs intermediate semiskilled work in the construction, maintenance and repair of public park facilities, buildings, grounds, utilities and associated facilities; related work as required. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the assigned Supervisor. Limited supervision is exercised over subordinate Maintenance Workers.Responsibilities:Perform a variety of semiskilled manual labor tasks in the maintenance and repair of public park facilities, grounds, streets, utilities and related facilities.Build and set forms and finish concrete; patch new and old concrete work as needed.Remove damaged sections of pavement; fill holes with patching materials and tamp or roll patches.Transport crews, materials and equipment to and from job sites.Construct, maintain and repair catch basins, curbing and retaining walls; install and repair fencing; replace roofs; build new picnic shelters.Mow grass, edge sidewalks and curbs, weed eat, trim trees and shrubs; perform related landscaping duties in the maintenance of park and golf course grounds.Prepare athletic fields for baseball, softball, football, and soccer; mark lines on playing fields; reshape mounds; reset bases; clean out dugouts; put up goals; perform general field maintenance duties.Clean park facilities; sanitize bathrooms; perform minor plumbing maintenance; mop, strip and wax floors; dust furniture, doors and windows; empty trash cans.Maintain playground equipment, tennis courts, and enclosures; place mulch around playground equipment; install new playground equipment.Train new employees and oversee the work performed by assigned full-time and part-time personnel.Perform minor maintenance and repairs on equipment.Operate chainsaw, concrete saw, jackhammer, asphalt roller, weed eater, stump grinder, etc. in the construction, maintenance and repair of public works and utilities facilities.If properly licensed, may operate dump trucks, backhoe and front loader.Perform related tasks as required.Qualifications:General knowledge of streets drainage, buildings, grounds, utilities, landscape areas and related construction, maintenance and repair procedures.General knowledge of the safe use, operation and preventive maintenance of the equipment to which assigned.Ability to understand and follow specific oral instructions.Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods, often under unfavorable weather conditions.Ability to read and write.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates.Education and Experience:High School or GED with moderate experience in public parks and facilities maintenance, repair and construction, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Possession of a Class C driver's license valid in the State of North Carolina. Special consideration for possession of a Class A Commercial Driver's License in the state of North Carolina.This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 100 pounds of force; work regularly requires standing, walking, using hands to finger, handle or feel and reaching with hands and arms; frequently pushing or pulling and lifting; occasionally requires speaking or hearing, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling and repetitive motions. Work requires depth perception and color perception; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, use of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts within arms length, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities. Work regularly requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions and occasionally requires wet, humid conditions (non-weather), working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, exposure to extreme cold (non-weather), exposure to extreme heat (non-weather), exposure to the risk of electrical shock, exposure to vibration and exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment; work is generally in a very quiet location (e.g. park trail, storage or file room).#J-18808-Ljbffr
